layered reeds, old over new?

Does anyone know if I can layer my reeds? old over new? will this have negative or positive effect? Thanks

In layering reeds, I'm guessing your running boyesen dual stage power reeds?
To be honest I wouldnt do that. Reeds are pretty cheap, and when worn out, are meant to be thrown out and replaced with new ones. If you are reffering to stock reeds, then the answer is also the same. Besides I don't think the reed screws are even long enough to layer or double up.

you want the new reeds to seal against the cage,
no need what so ever to double them up

thanks guys. i just thought maybe stiffer reeds may improve something. just a wild thought.

Stiffer reeds would resist opening would they not?

Also 2 layers moving against each other would cause friction and possibly wear the mating surfaces.
