Anything with 3-4gigs of ram will do, look for a newer i3 or i5 processor. Always go with an intel as they wont bomb out on you. However I would recommend going to all the local chain store as they are refreshing there laptops as we speak. I got my Dell Inspirion 17R right before it went on sale and had to go back and get the sale price as it saved like $115. I love this thing, its a beast to take to class, but it has the SRS premium sound and high resolution 17" screen. So anything like DELL, Toshiba, or Asus would last awhile.

If your not on a budget and need it for school then get a mac. They are by far the best laptops I have ever used. They do not get viruses like windows and are way more organized. I use mine for school. I have had mine for almost 3 years now with absolutely no problems.

No, people like Macs for The software because it is amazingly user friendly. However I would recommend buying a windows based for the hardware so it is cheaper. Then just dual booting Mac and windows, it will be a grand cheaper with the same performance and reliability. I had to deal with Macs at work and wanted to shoot myself when I wanted to change out a sound card in one.
