cottonwood falls, ks
finished topend rebuild with 67 bore. have pj 34 carb. tried pilot jets 45, 48, 50, 55. main jets 140 threw 158. stock 1470 needle and dgh all clips top to bottom. air screw in and out. the closest i got to running was a sputter with 55 and 150.
only mods are filter at carb, VF3, bore, cleaned up intake and exhaust ports, LRD header,.

i run a 34pj on my bike, but with the mods listed below in my sig, and it also gave me fits when i first started using it, and even though i finally figeured it out, i still use the cable tension to lift the slide to set my idle, only troubles i found with doing that is it will rev slightly when the bars are cranked to the left putting tension on the cable
i do not understand the choke circuit idle adjust on these things, turning the choke knob does increase idle, bit how does just adding fuel do that ????
i like adjusting the slide, as all other carbs do to add fuel and air

seems you're on the right track with the "dgh" needle, as thats what i use,
clip in the middle
i have heard of the "cel" used also

my other jetting is............ 45 pilot, 155 main during summer and a 162 during the cooler months, airscrew somewhere under 2 turns out

so being your mods are lighter than mine, you may need to be slightly lower on both jetting circuts, but it should run with that jetting
but try adjusting the idle with the cable to see if it'll idle, and turn the choke knob all the way down tight
