I just got my blaster it had a 220 jet in the carb. It was running lean. I put an fmf system on it and it has a k&n. I called fmf and they told me to put a 260 jet in. well it runs great when it gets in the powerband. but when you first hit the throttle is sputters till it gets into higher rpms. I pulled the air lid of the air box and put a 250 jet in. It has no problems when I take off now. Im still having trouble deciding between the 250 and the 260 jet. I just dont want the filter to suck in sand and dirt with no air lid. someone told me to put panty hose over the k&n will this help?

there should be no need to change ur pilot. ide say with no lid and an fmf a 260 should be about rite. not much should get into the box through the filter but an outerwears should be fine for the 15 bux. put a 260 atleast in the carb and ride it around and check ur plug. richer is better than leaner!!!

well for starters, your air/ fuel screw, its on the right side of carb, can't miss it, flathead, check and see where it is at, close it all the way and then open it 1 1/2 turns out, then do a plug chop and see where you are at. what do you have for a pilot in it?

when you bump up yo jets you have to bump up the pilot accordingly sounds like you need to maybe put the next size up of pilot jet, stock is like 33.5 o something like that so i would get like a 34 or 35 whatever next size (dont remember off top of my head) you will know the pilot is too rich if you get higher in RPMS and it starts to backfire

the stock is 35.5, and when if you go too far with the air/fuel mix screw it will backfire also, mine did when i was tuning it. you want 1/ 1/2 turns out

I think you guys mean 32.5 is stock. These pilot jets...like most...go by 2.5 sizes for the lower numbers which means you can't have a 35.5.

Here is the chart of pilots available for the stock carb:

15 17.5 20 22.5 25 27.5 30 32.5 35 40 45 50

go bigger, buy a couple sizes bigger, like a 35, 37.5,42, you can always resell them, buy them offo f jets r us, go with a 250-270 main and get to tunin!

When I was still working at the dealership, I piped and jetted over a hundred Blasters and NEVER changed a pilot jet.

260 main, 1 1/2 turns out on air screw, needle in the middle clip and no air box lid. 1500 Elevation.
Just my $.02

The only way to be sure that it's right is to do a plug chop. Read your plug and go from there.

haha, wow, when i got my 34mm carb the guy has .10 bore and was running a 60 pilot in it, right now for what i am running, its got a 42 in it now. you know how to do a plug chop? you want your plug to be a cardboard color
