Stupid me tried to press in my crank. So now it's bent. I called Ken and he is going to put the bottom end together for me with all the new parts . So my question is how would a pack the engine for shipping? And what carrier should I use?

A plastic tote from walmart with lots of layers of cardboard in the bottom....and I mean LOTS of layers.
A dole banana box from the super market is made of heavy, firm, crunchy cardboard.
Put cardboard ALL AROUND the engine and pack it tight! Tape it TIGHT!

ALWAYS DRAIN ALL FLUIDS THOROUGHLY!
Enclose a note with your address on it in case it gets damaged/ opened/ lost.

PROTECT that shifter shaft!

UPS and FEDEX are good carriers.

Remember to make sure that the parcel has some for of handles for the carrier (UPS/ FEDEX) to grab it buy. I figure that if they have handles, they will be less likely to DROP your engine.

Or, if he's gonna rebuild the entire bottom end, maybe disassemble it and send it to him with all the parts. If your up to the task. It would ensure a better pack job, and probably less to ship considering the size of box. With FedEx and ups, once you get to a certain size box, they can careless about weight. Smaller box equals less in shipping.

I have a really nice OEM crank. Give me $30 bucks for it and I'll ship it to Ken for a rebuild for you. Of course you pay for the rebuild.

On top of what was already said . Don't forget to drain any fluids!!! Empty soda bottles, gallon milk jugs or any bottle type thing with a cap either full, half crushed or whatever is like an air pillow and helps to take up large space with low weight.. Basicly crush it to the size you need and put the cap on and it holds its shape for the most part.. If your looking for cardboard, check the back alley of any strip mall, big box store, liquor store etc. 99% of them have a cardboard bin and don't mind if you take some boxes..

I decided to rebuild myself. Do you still have the crank? I am really interested. Sorry to bring up a old thread.

This time around watch Men's vid on assembly. No clue how you could bend a crank.. I know the left bearing is tight fit, need to "swedge" the bearing.

Google is your friend !!
Cliff note explanation : sacrificial piece heated then applied to inner race of bearing, expanding it. Drop crank in. Could chill crank in freezer.

In your situation heat case in oven on lowest setting, freeze BRG.

NEVER apply direct heat (torch) to any part of a bearing !!
