Hello please forgive me if this is common knowledge, I am a beginner in the area of rebuilding motors. I am replacing all the seals in my blaster with a seal kit, how do I remove the old ones? I already removed the two crankshaft ones and they seemed hard to get out and the thing was demolished by the time I got it out. All my other bearings are good so i will just replace the seals. I do have the service manual but I didn't come across anything that described how to deal with seals.

One other question I have the old crank, seems to be good with all the specs, except for grabbing the end of the rod and moving side to side there is about 5 mm play, someone told me that that was OK, the service manual says no more than 1mm.

I have already bought a new OEM crank but i want to know if i can sell this old crank as a good usable crank.

Thanks!

the right way to do it is to screw in a metal screw into the seal, then pull on the screw to pop the seal free from the case. you MUST take your time doing this, if you rush things, you will end up damaging the mating surface on the case.

do you mean screw.. say a bolt into the opening of the seal, or use like a sheetrock screw and screw it into the rubber of the seal? Thanks for your response just need a bit of clarification.

Also does all this need to be done from inside the case or the outside?

i would say anything over 2mm of play is bad, 5mm is going to ware out your top end pretty quick with all the piston slap( your crank running at angles)! i wouldnt run it like that cause its probally gonna come apart soon!!!

cool thanks Darrel, I guess I will just keep it on the side for a spare and may be rebuild it one day. How do I remove the pin from the crank that holds the rod in? Im assuming its pressed in there and the only way to remove it is take it to a machine shop.

yes, it needs to be pressed out, unless you have a press than take it to a machine shop!

i just used a drywall screw.. really any kind of coarse thread screw will do the job as long as its not too wide. it will be very hard to puncture the rubber part of the seal, but TAKE YOUR TIME AND GO SLOW!!! once its in a little bit where it will hold, take a pair of pliers and pull on it. it should just pop free. and you do this from the OUTSIDE of the case, just to replace crank seals you do not have to split the cases... or even remove the motor for that case.

can i get a rep point? hehe I:I
