While tearing down my engine for a rebuild, I noticed that a couple of the screws were so loose that I didn't even need a screw driver to remove them, my finger did the trick. The guy I bought the blaster from said he just had the engine rebuilt, but I got it home and it couldn't even keep oil in it they were so loose. When i took them out there wasn't any thread locker on them. This is my first rebuild so I am not to sure of the proper way to do it, do I use a medium thread locker and tighten the best I can with a screwdriver, or do i have to torque the screws with no thread locker? ( I have one of those screwdriver punches that you hit with a mallet and it will either tighten or loosen.) Also should all of the screws in the engine be done this same way? :">

apply medium thread locker to each bolt then tighten until you cant tighten any farther. then loosen it out all the way then re tighten it all the way that way the thread locker sets between all the grooves on the bolts.
make sure u put on a new gasket before you bolt it back on for good

for future reference post this in the general section or elsewhere the diy is for teaching others how to do stuff with pics ect. not for answering questions u noob! :P

Ok crusty there is no gasket for the crankcase... Yamabond is what the service manual calls for, also it does't say to use loctite either. Just to torque them.

Im curious to know what everyone else does. Your feedback is appreciated.

i would use a mild loctite and a yamabond gasket maker dont go nuts with the locktite but it will help u out and still torque to spec good luck

I know this may sound stupid, but is there a torque wrench for screws? I have a couple torque wrenches but id have figure out a way to get a phillips end on it. Come to think of it I do have a phillips bit on my impact screwdriver that is 1/4 inch drive...

Is there an easier way?
