Ok, well this is a basically Free mod that isnt going to make you any faster, but it will sure look trick!
You can do this whole thing on the motor, it just depends on how far you want to go. I was going to polish the whole thing on mine, so I took mine off. But you can do all the steps below with it on the motor.
First, if your like me, mine was all dirty and scuzzy. So you'll wanna clean it all up real nice. Simple green is a good cleaner, so is keroseen, or any other "gunk off" type stuff that you like for de-greasing.
Next you'll want to start getting the paint off. You can do this 2 ways. You can start with some heavyish sand paper, 100 grit or somthing, or some steel wool. Keep in mind the rougher the sand paper you use, will mean more sanding later to get the scratches out of the aluminum.
Or you can use paint stripper, but be aware, this is gonna take paint off ANYTHING and EVERYTHING it touches, so beeee carefull on what it hits.
Next is where the work comes in.
Your going to want to start with about a 400 grit sand paper. Sand your little fingers off. Going from a 400 grit, or 200 depending on what you originially started with, and work your way up in order, to about a 2000 grit.
When you get up into the higher grits, above 800 you'll want to use water with them aka wetsanding. This will keep the small pieces of aluminum out of of the sand paper, and off your surface your trying to polish.
Now you should have somthing that is somewhat shiney, but still look pretty dull.
Go to sears or any hardware store and buy a decet polishing kit. It should have a polishing wheel, and some bars of compound. Use the aluminum one, and go to town. Spend a little time on this. The more work you put into it, the better your end results will be.
My End results, even though i rushed thru it for the DIY, you can make it look like chrome. Make sure you protect it with a nice coat of wax after you get done, or it will dull up real quickly.
