Hey everyone I am new here. I just bought an 03 blaster that needs a cyl, piston, and head due to a borderline supernatural piston failure. I figured....big bore. Anyway so I tear down the top end and now I am thinking "how do I check the lower rod bearing and what are the specs it should be within? It has slight lateral play but nothing severe. If you try to recipricate the rod it has no apparent up and down play.Any help would be great. I dont want to go through all this work and then lose bottom end too. Thanks

blasterman is 100% correct. so are you plannin on buying a big bore kit? cuz if you're just gonna overbore the stock cylinder, don't even bother. you can only get like 0.090" out of it, and it's negligible. a solid port and polish job is the single most power-gaining mod you can do. it completely changes the behavior of the engine. it's like a performance cam in a 4stroke.
also a good pipe. in fact the pipe is where you want to start, that will determine the nature of your power curve. then port it to maximize the power in the curve.
also if the head is f*cked anyway, just send it along w/ the jug and have it redesigned w/ the proper squish band and angle. any good builder will be able to accomodate you but i always recommend kennedy_power.
also you need to take into consideration why the piston blew in the first place. the most common reason is from a lean charge. this can be from either improper jetting or from an airleak. you def want to diagnose that...
