hey i picked up a 2001 yamaha blaster about 3 weeks ago since we never get any snow and i cant take my snowmobile out... when i got it and it wasnt running because the piston was exploded but after changing the piston and the top end i got it running but it death reved. so i changed the dry seal and that fixed the problem but now when i start it with or without the choke it only runs if i keep on the throttle. the second i let off it just dies out. does anyone have any idea what could be the problem? i checked the fly wheel and cleaned the carb and still cant get it to idle. i look forward to learning a lot about my blaster.

Welcome. Sounds like a jetting issue to me.

Welcome to the forum. First adjust the air screw 1 1/2 turns out. Adjust you idea screw to try and get it to idle . If that don't work, you may need to take the carb apart and clean it real good.

Well when your pistion exploded did you disassemble the bottom end and put new crank bearings in. Wouldn't cause your idle issue but won't last very long. I see you live in conneticut? You should introduce your self to Ken Oconner, master builder!

Getting back to the issue, First you need to leak test that motor! nothe else till that happens!
Directions below, you can make, buy or borrow a air leak tester, but it is an essential tool for the blaster owner! I know Ken Oconner had two testers as I sent them to him. I also sell them for $30 shipped.

welcome, yip you MUST do a leak test. very NB, in the mean time double check that carb and set the air screw as DD7 suggested.

welcome to the forum! there's a good chance that when the piston broke, it broke the cases. let us know how the leakdown goes!
