hey im new to working on blasters and i need some help. i just got a 1988 blaster a few weeks ago from a buddy and shortly after i got it i got it started and running. then the third or fourth time i had it runnning it just quit on me and wouldnt start again. i checked and im not getting any spark. this blaster has some wiring that looks kinda hacked up, and it also has the oil injection removed. they also put a twist throtle on it and a aftermarket carb. so far i have replaced the ignition coil, checked the on/off switch and that was fine but im still not getting any spark. i thought it could be the tors but since it has a twist throttle and aftermarket carb and that it had spark when i got it im not sure. any help or suggestions would be great, i really want to ride this thing!

alright i will have to check them wires out tomorrow, but i think i already went through and checked that.

No Fire fix?

Im pretty sure they need to be tied together to be "on" to have spark. My switch is gone, and they are tied together and it works fine.

Another thing you can look at for the no spark, is that you replaced the throttle and the carb, right (they had 2 wires coming out of each, right)? The old throttle had 2 wires that have a connector around the headlight, and you may have to put a jumper or tie together those two wires (chasis side of the connector) to get ignition. What it is, is an ignition overide if your throttle or carb is not functioning properly, it kills the ignition so the quad dont run away or etc. If your original throttle or carb is not there, it may be your ignition problem. Im going be memory, I dont remember if both carb and throttle are gone, if it would be an issue (dont remember were the wires go). If I need to later, I can find out more.

Let me know what you find.

EDIT: Then again, I just realized it is an 88, I dont know if they even have that safety system on them then.

mine had no spark for a lil while, i just traced what wire is coming outta the crankcase with power with a meter and followed it through to the coil. and check all ur grounds. mine happened to turn out to be a ground problem.

the key wires definately have to be disconnected and separtated for it to run. the when the key is off it just grounds out the spark. basically another kill switch.

oh and the wires need to be taped or something, cant be touchin anything metal.

yah thanks for the help. unfortunatly about a week later the bottom end of the motor went out! lol. but i picked up a used motor off a member on here and its all back together again and it rips.
