I took my Blaster out today and it ran good just as it always has but only for about an hour then it started acting up and sputtering like bluh bluh bluh and I rev rev but get bluh bluh then it died. I tried kicking it a couple dozen times but it wouldnt start. I let it sit for about 10 minutes then it started after a couple kicks but it wasnt good. It would sputter and I would give it throttle then it would sputter then it started to idle by itself but still not good. I let it idle for a coupe minutes the road it around for a couple minutes but it was just sputtery and didnt have much power. It was hard to get on the powerband and to keep it there without it sputtering and wanting to die. Then when I was coming to a stop it just died and I did the same thing again a couple times and it back fired a couple times. I changed the spark plug and its still running the same. LIKE CRAP. It used to always start 1st or 2nd kick and run good.

Could it be a air or gas problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What did the plug look like, coil could be going bad. Does the bike still have the tors hooked up, parking brake hooked up? It might be an airleak and the top end maybe going out, find a compress gauge and check the comp. What mods do you have on the bike, if you piped it or took the airbox cover off, did you rejet?

The spark plug was black and it still has the tors and parking break on. It doesn't have any mods or a pipe but I did replace the stock air box lid with one that has a nylon vent over the top. I didn't rejet.

i would take the tors off first. if that doesn't fix it take off the parking brake sensor. if that doesn't work start diagnosing top end issues with a comp gauge, leakdown tester etc. and once you figure out whats wrong u need to rejet for that airbox lid. How long have you been running it with that lid?

how black we talking, and did it have carbon or oil build up, or was it dry. Also as asked above how long have you been running with the different air box, I'm guessing it is letting more air in, and since you didn't rejet it is running with the same amount of fuel, so it could have leaned out and burned out the piston, you definetly need to get ahold of a compression tester.

The plug had black carbon on it and I have rode it with the vented airbox lid on 4 times but it never ran bad till today.

Could it be not enough gas or air? Maybe something is plugged up. How can I check? Sorry I dont know much about working on bikes.

Thanks Guys! Keep the help coming. I:I

It would be too much air. i think the vented airbox leaned out you mixture and screwed your top end. take off your cylinder and make sure while you might have a chance of just having to replace rings. if you run much longer it has more of a chance of affecting the piston or cylinder if they aren't already messed up.

hmmm carbon fouling tends to mean that you are rich, but opening the air box adds more air which means lower fuel to air which means you start running lean, try running a new plug and doing a plug chop, you may be a little rich on the low end but up top you are lean and could have started burning up the rings/piston.

I'm taking it to my grandpas to do a compression test and check it out. I'll let yall know whats up in a couple hours.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

OK. So we did a compression test and there was only 100 pounds of pressure. So we tore into the top end and the piston and cylinder look fine. The reeds did look bad and the little flaps werent closing all the way. There was a gap in them. So I'm going to try the V-Force reeds, get new rings, and a new top end gasket set. So till I get the money its torn apart in my storage. Hopefully it fixes the problem. Any other ideas would be great.

Thanks for the help everyone.

You did keep going till the needle stopped moving right? If so then that would do it you should be 120+. Also make sure you check the cylinder for any scaring ,if not then you should be ok with a hone and rigs, if there is any scaring or deep grooves you will have to bore it up one size and get a new piston.

Yes I did keep kicking it till the needle stopped moving. It barely got to 100. The cylinder didnt have any scaring but the reeds flap things wouldnt close all the way by themselves. They had a little gap.

Is it easy to hone the cylinder? Meaning can I do it myself? I HATE PAYING SHOPS TO WORK ON MY BIKES.

Thanks.

ya you may have to get some new reeds while you are at it, I have heard that you can flip them over and run them, but I wouldn't recommend it. And honing is pretty straight forward, if you have a cylinder hone.

I honed out the cylinder, put new rings, gaskets, vf3 reeds, power core 2 silencer, and disconnected the TORS today and now the Blasty is back runnin and its runnin great. Thanks for all the help everyone. I:I
