Okay here we go. I'm fixing a blaster for a buddy of mine. one day i get a call from him saying his Blaster will not start so i go over and and check it out. I go over the obvious. i check for fuel in the tank, flow to the carb, spark and so on. after about 20 kicks the kick starter jams up.i engage it in gear and move it backwards and try again and the kick starter is free again. Upon this i decide to take of the pipe and inspect the piston. I come to see thru the exhaust port that the piston has failed. the whole piston skirt was destroyed. I disassemble the top end and there are pieces of the piston in the crankcase and in the pipe as well. maybe on of the pieces of the piston got in between a transfer port or something and that was the cause of the kicks tarter jamming, wouldn't let the engine turn over. Anyways problem solved Right? needs new piston. the Cylinder to my surprise was a okay. Not a single sign of damage. no heavy scratches. my fingernail wouldn't get caught on anything. Cylinder is okay other than normal wear. the new stock bore piston kit comes in and here is wear the problem begins. I install the piston with the indicator towards the front of the engine. install the base gasket, the cylinder, i make sure the head gasket is put on correctly with the words "up" facing up! and that should be it! assemble everything back and still no start. i have tons of compression. I have spark, new spark plug too. i clean all the jets in the carburetor and the carb itself 5 times already! Reeds are new boyesen. even took off the flywheel to see if the woodruff key was sheard.. nope, not sheard. everything looks fine. I have compression. I have fuel and spark. Still it wont turn on. this bike has the T.O.R.S. removed with a motion pro twist throttle set up and its working fine because i was the one who installed it for him a while back and it works. the oil injection was also deleted. I don't know what else to do. it sounds like it wants to turn on but it dosen't. after so many kicks the lower pipe gets a little warm and you can see smoke coming from the scilencer, along with the smell of the 2 stroke. its not flooded checked the plug a couple of times. blew even heated it up with a lighter still nothing. the parking brake is good nothing sticking. I drained out the tank and used my fuel that i know for sure its okay from my Suzuki RM250 (32:1 klotz super techniplate. 93 octane).. still nothing. Help me Please! i know i wrote alot. this is my first time ever writing on a forum. i just wanted to give everyone all and exact details. thanks

Did you split the cases?

If you just fitted the new piston without splitting the cases and fully inspecting and cleaning, it may be a bonus that the motor will not start.

Any motor that drops a piston should be split open and checked for damage.

Have you done a leak down test?

I did not split the cases. what i did do is remove the stator and the right crank case cover to inspect the crankshaft seals. Sprayed them with WD40 and kicked over the engine to see if any bubbles would appear or anything thats not normal.(as the piston moves down it creates positive pressure in the crankcase.. this is for you Quadrider 10. that video was of no use to me). the crank seals look fine. Also the transmission oil came out clean. didn't have any metal particles or have that light silver tint to it if damage did happen internally. The transmission fluid was a light caramel color with no scent of gasoline. This leads me to believe that where the cases meet at the crankcase wasn't damaged. The crankshaft and connecting rode all looked fine with no damage or any excessive play up and down, left to right..

Blasster, can it be that the ECU has failed? is there anyway to test it? when the bike cut off on him he called me to check it out. Like i said i found the piston to be shot and told him to order a top end kit. Took him about 3 months to buy it. since then its been sitting outside on grass. maybe the humidity damaged the ECU?? Here in Florida the rainy season has already started so the bike has been exposed.

No i haven't done a leakdown test. tomorrow i will do. its late out. i'll let you know. thanks!

You really need to do a leak down test, there is more than a slight chance that a bit of piston, has got where it should not have got.

A leak down test will confirm if the cases are damaged.

If the bike has been sitting outside in the weather the chances are the earth may have lost their conductivity.

The CDI unit cannot be tested, you need to swap it out for a known good one.

If you have compression, fuel and spark at the right time, it should start, unless you have an air leak.

I will repeat, that any motor that drops a piston should be split open and checked for damage, and the bearing inspected for damage, thouroghly cleaned, prefferably replaced.

It takes only one grain of shrapnel from a piston dropping its skirt, to ruin a bearing.
