Hard time starting 99 blaster

I am having a really hard time starting my blaster, it has a toomey exhaust kit on it and I think it is the stock carb. somedays it starts right up others it wont start at all.....today is one of those days. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong when trying to start it but I have tried with full choke nhalf choke and no choke, giving it throttle no throttle and two quick stabs before I kick it. It gets louder(like it is trying to fire) when I hit the throttle. I just changed the plug and it gets good spark. runs like a champ when I can get it to start. It also doesn't like to idle when it is cold.

kinda feels like a fuel problem, flooded or no gas but when I blow into the clear tube gas comes out of the other one....dont know if I am supposed to do that.

and use a flashlight to peek into the intake and check the condition of 4 reed petals while you have the carb out for cleaning, they should all sit flat and tight to the reedcage creating a good seal, and have no cracks/chips

Low compression can make it start hard. Check your compression, if it is under 100 its time for a rebuild. You can sometimes borrow them from an auto parts store after leaving a deposit.

It gets louder because you can hear the extra air resonating in the airbox.

The fuel enrichment circuit (choke) may have crap in it.

Keep your thumb off of the throttle it causes a leaner mixture.

So I figured out what was wrong.....I had one of the headlight wires plugged into the wrong cord. I figured I would check for spark again and there was none and then I remembered that I had plugged a wire in when I was painting it, so I unplugged it and it fired up the first kick.
