ok peeps im new to this site and need some help with my blaster gearing. i recently changed my tires from 22x10x8 to 18x10x8 and my gears are really short and i cant climb hills anymore. my front sprocket is a 14t dont know what my rear sprocket is. what size of sprockets do i need to change too in order to get my power back. thanx danny '05 blaster

you should have more torque with the 18's on there. But, to get the speed back you will need to either go up a tooth on the front sprocket or go down to a 39/38T sprocket in the rear depending on mods.

12?? if you thought your gears were short with the 14 u wont have anything now... u need to go up on the front or down on the rear sprocket to space the gearing out...i have 14/40 gearing with 18 inch turf tamers i dont have any problems climbing hills at all and the low end is just plain nasty

cool thanx. i never chkd to see what my rear sprocket was, but ill do that a.s.a.p and go from there. so would u suggest a 15t or 16t in front? or how many teeth should i go down on the back if i stay with the 14t?

if you need more top end, i'd go to a 38 or 39 either one will work. you'd have to grind on the engine cases to be able to fit any bigger than that 14t front sprocket

ummm i would probably go down a tooth or 2 on the rear sprocket before u go up on the front the rear is not such a drastic change like the front...i know on my zx9 that i had going down a tooth in the front would be the same as going up 3 in the back but i wouldnt know what to convert that to a blaster

ok so i kinda figured out the problem. went from 18's to 20's and it seemed to fix the problem, somewhat. my gearing is 14/39 losing top end power while climbing them dunes so now im gonna go with 14/40 and with the 20's i got it should correct the problem. thanx guys for the help

Not to hijack the thread but was curious what the stock sprockets are on a blaster, I just ordered new 14/40 front/rear and wonder what that would do as far as top end, and climbing performance?

yes ive had plenty of math classes. the reason i posted was to get help as does everyone else not to be talked sh*t to. why dont u suggest something instead of bringing me down motoman9911?

with 18" tires and 14t sproket u should be perfect, i wouldnt recommend going up a tooth becuase u might not have enough power to have all that much fun, and dont go down a tooth or your gears will be even shorter then they are now. i got 18" tires and a 14t and i got more top speed than i need and can still easily wheelie in 4th.

do you have an extended swing arm, cuz it look like you do, and it looks really good.

well the 18's i bought were more for track and i needed tires to climb sand hills so i think thats part of the reason i couldnt climb.the 20's i bought do way better i can actually climb. at first i had 22x10x8 and i would climb like if nothing but i wanted to go with a flat top tire, thats why i changed.the only promblem now is that just about at the top of the hill i need to down shift.so i just need to mess around w/the gearing to get the perfect combo thats where you all come along. appreciate the help guys keep it coming
