the gearing calculater on here doesn't help me.
you all seen my hybrid, read my ride report..i hope. the question is my drive gears. i need to count the front to be sure. my drive gears are 13/40 right now. stock for both the honda front and yamaha rear. i will be running eventually 20/10/9 tires but as of now, the paddles are 22/11/8 and the stock blaster tires are 21/10/8 i believe. anyways, the cr125 trans seems to make tje gearing 1 to 1 in 4th gear. i cant get into 5th and 6th. what gearing do you all think i should try to get into the last two gears and gain the speed it should be hitting. without loosing the lower gears. 1st is a bit tough to get into, but once its moving, it can tractor oretty easy.

The taller gears are more prone to clutch slip.

Exactly what is the problem, do you rev out in the tall gears, or do you not have enough power to pull them?

it has the power to pull i believe. just as soon as i shift into 5th, still on the pipe, it starts slowing down. right now i cant remember if it was loosing power also or staying on the pipe and slowing. i can get up to 4th pretty quick and keep pulling until it needs to shift. once i shift into 5th, it just wont pull. i had to down shift to get back on the pipe.

So you need lower gearing to allow a transition to get on the pipe at about the centre of the power range.

If the ratios in the gearbox are wide, you may never be able to achieve it well.

The problem with smaller displacement engines in a heavier framework is that they really have to be fully on the pipe to pull well.

You may really have to push the revs up prior to changing, and making lightening fast changes so that little momentum is lost.
