just got my flywheel off, thought my procedure may interest a few guys,
i took a peice of #12 electrical wire and fished it through the 2 holes in the flywheel, twisted it together to make about a 1 foot loop, lifted the whole motor up by this loop about 2 inches off my workbench, to put all the weight on the flywheel, then gave the nut, which i threaded on backwards, a few good cracks with a 2 lb hammer, and walla, off came the flywheel
time to crack her open

pics if anyone needs 'em

It's always good when you can do it without that special tool, whatever works. I took 2 bolts and ground notches and hooked them in those holes. I put the bolts in a harmonic balancer puller I already had.

for me the 15 bucks for the tool was worth the price, to risk messing up a crank or that nut it's not worth it to me. Besides then you have the tool for the next time, and if you own two strokes you will be rebuilding them.
