First time rebuild (for me ever)

Ok I am a small engine newb and have a few questions.

My blaster that I have had for 16 years has been dead for 8 years. It was rolled in the mud by a buddy of mine back in high school. I finally got it out of my dads barn, and getting in cleaned up for my wife so we can go ride (I got a banshee WOOT).

Anyway, I got the head and cylinder off, and both sides taken apart (case covers). clutches and gears on one side, and I am waiting to use my buddies puller for the flywheel on the other so i can split the case. Seems that the crank is seized (doesnt spin with cylinder off). all the bearings look good.

Anyway I am trying to figure out what is the best thing to do. I saw a 3mm stroker kit, and a wiseco piston .30 over all for like 200 bucks brand new, but what about the bearings and all the extra stuff?

ALSO! if I do that am I going to lose the reliability factor of my bike? when it was stock I rode it for 8 years with no problems (and I rode the dog crap out of it). What do you guys think?!

I dont need it to be super fast or anything like that (dont want my wife to beat me on my stock banshee lol.)

All opinions and info is appreciated, and if anyone knows a good place to buy aftermarket or even oem stuff please let me know!

BTW: I am not a newb when it comes to turning a wrench, just small engine repair.

Good luck with the build. I just have a stock crank and slite overbore, but it starts on the first kick everytime, you got to love that. As far as parts Vito's has been real good to me. I live in Ohio and there in Michagin and I get my parts next day and thats a major plus to me.
Theres alot of good info around here and I'm sure someone with more experiance with cranks and big bores will help you out.

i just came from a weekend riding trip, and me and battbike did well over 120 miles, most of the time screaming, and both blastys didnt miss a beat the whole time, and we have been ripping on them for about 7 months now.
always remember that reliabilty is only an issue when the machine is not tuned or maintained properly

i run 93 oct in mine, but the only time u should run a higher octane is when u raise ur compression, such as milling the head down, mine is milled down 0.30 for more compression, my cylinder is bored .60 over, but u only want to bore ur cylinder over if it is damaged or gouged. boreing does not increase power, only lessens cylinder life, so go the smallest over as possible
if u r going to do the +3 stroker, it must be ported so that the port timings line up correctly, or u will feel only minimal gains, but port it to match the crank and its hold on!! very fast

All three builders on this site have port jobs varying from $180-$250.00.

Go ahead and contact some of them, they are kennedy_power, wildcard2 and FLOTEK.

well if it has been sitting for 8 years you might want to replace all the crank bearings, seals, gaskets, i mean run through it with a fine tooth comb, and put a ebc heavy duty clutch in there, you won't regret it, if i was you if it is for your wife, send it to a builder have him bore/hone it,whichever it needs, put a new piston kit in it, don't bother with the stroker, i doubt she will want to run like a bat out hell, unless she is like blaster biotch, you can get all stock stuff in kits, i order a lot of my stuff on here and ebay, i got 4 jugs if in need of one, all you will need is the piston kit to go with em, i am still running mine on stock bore its an 02, and i run the piss out of mine, the biggest thing is don't go nuts on the bore, only take it to what it needs, like if it is stock, see if it is able to just get honed, but its probably in need of a .010 over or more, any more questions just ask!

see that is what I keep going back and fourth with in my head! to put it all back stock or to mod it. that "jug" you are talking about what is that? if I want to rid that blaster will it carry me with no issues being all stock? I weigh 230 and am 6'1"? or should I mod it so we can both ride it? as opposed to highschool i only weighed half what I do now.

you look like a descent size guy. does the bike carry you pretty well with no issues smoker?

yeah im 5 9, 205, and it still acts like a rat on crack, i got stock suspension, if you don't want to put too much money in it yeah you can and it will carry you, like the slight mods i got, you will be fine or go for the 240 if u want to spend the money, i mean there are so many little things you can do to liven up ur blaster, you can go with what i have for engine mods, then have it p/p and you will see noticeable gains in power and throttle response, you send ur jug and head to flotek, wildcard or kenneduy and they completely redesign ur head, change the squish band clearance and the angle, i have heard its pretty nasty gains as stock, which the better/more it breathes, the better it runs!

sounds like you're gonna need a new crank (i think i might have a used one laying around somewhere, i'd have to check if you want it pm me), i'd go ahead and do the bearings and all the seals if i were you. i wouldn't worry about the balancer bearing or the countershaft bearing. but it might be worth checking the countershaft bearing out just in case.
i HIGHLY recommend the port and polish. that sh*t wakes the bike up way more than any other mod out there. also, i would NOT recommend just honing the cylinder and reusing the same piston. this will increase the play between piston and cylinder wall and will VERY quickly lead to a chewed up piston skirt which will mean another bottome end rebuild.
