Expansion chamber

My question is, do aftermarket expansion chamber really make that much of a difference or is it really the muffler increasing the horsepower? I understand it is probably more efficient than a stock chamber, but at the price point it's definitely something I wanna know. I searched online and couldn't really find an answer. I can get a fmf power core on eBay right now for $120 shipped. But the full system is more like $300. With that big a price jump it is definelty something I wanted to check before spending all that extra dough

It is the design of the header pipe. It is tuned kinectly to allow much better breathing.

The silencer usually has no say after the stinger or the header.

It is usually not possible to use the stock silencer with an aftermarket header as it will create back pressure.

A muffler basically changes the sound. also, aftermarket muffler flow better than the stock one because of baffles but not to the increase of a pipe

The pipe, or expansion chamber, has to do with back pressure of gases so that only exhaust is removed from the cylinder.

We actually went over this in my class today. the expansion chamber is a specific volume that is made for each specific engine.
Aftermarket pipes allow for that mixture to 1)fill up the chamber without losing fuel from the cylinder and 2)escape easier with no baffles/silencing stuff

its a lost of technical stuff that you probably dont care about or might not understand. but it is the PIPE that makes the power difference

people wouldnt pay for something that doesnt give them any gain. other than netflix, netflix sucks but we all have it ;)

So in other words quit trying to cheap out and just drop the moolah :p

I love spending other peoples money!

no offense :D

so what type of riding do you do and where do you need the power? (high vs. low RPMs)

There was just a huge pist on this on a bunch of brands of exhausts, also ebay just popped up like 4 full fmf used full exhausts for the $75-$150 range

A pipe is the best bang for the buck and is manditory if you want to do any other mods.
Recently did a flip, bone stock except for Vito's SS piston. Tho it had good punch right off idle, the stock pipe signs off way to early (falls flat).

To loosely quote Gorden Jennings "the expansion chamber is like bolting on a turbocharger without all the extra BS"
A chamber actually pulls F/A mixture into the diversion cone part of the pipe, which is then pushed back into the cyl just before the ex port closes.

Awk that was def one of the ones i know i had just seen before i posted that message, thanks for adding link, in last week i seen a few more seperated systems but they are def out there dime a dozen

i have heard the longer the silencer the more bottem end power/ the shorter the more high end power...but dont hold me to it or flip out :Do_O

Here are a few links that will help you understand. I know there long and allot of info to take in, but its good chitter material.

After an expansion chamber a Yamaha Blaster really likes a properly modified head. It helps in every rpm range. Get a pipe get a head mod and get your squish set up correctly and your on your way to a very happy blaster. In the mean time hang on :D. Even with a stock carb.
