Will a exaust leak cause any mojor problems or a noticable loss in power?

it can affect performance and longevity, just get some copper rtv and seal it up, maybe you need a new donut gasket aswell

It came with one in the rebuild kit but I have a aftermarket exaust and there's a noticable gap where they meet. I noticed advance auto has a high heat silicone. what's your opinion on using that?

should work, look at the heat range, its gunna get real hot

Cometic sells just the exhaust gasket, for 12 bucks eliminates the use of rtv to seal the flange to the motor, may still need it where the pipe and flange connect. The part number is- EX350064AM Exhaust Gasket $12.78.
