Ok heres the problem. Last weekend while riding my brothers blaster acted up. It wont idle, and if you try to give it gas, it backfires. So i took off carb, dismantled and cleaned it, set float level to .84 which is within yamaha specs. Set air screw to 1 1/2 turns out. Reinstalled carb, I also replaced the reeds as the gap on the old ones was way out of spec. I think if memory serves right, the manual says 2 thousandths of an inch, they where at about thirty thousandths. also check compression, which is good . but it still does the samething. Almost sounds like the timing is off. SO i go to pull off the flywheel and its filled with water. Cleaned out water and checked out stator resistance which all checked out. I have yet to put it back together but if this doesnt work, what should i look for next? Im thinking maybe a bad Cdi unit? Any help is appreciated.

you have solved your own problem! Should run good after all that water is outa there and sanded the pointes with fine grit!(I think your prob was that the water in there prevented your spark from fireing right, so to me it sounds like your good to go. As long as you got all the water out of the engine.(water is a good source of conductivity:miss fire)
