Was wondering how hot the top end on a blaster is supposed to get. after about a half hour ride on mine it seemed quite hot. I had a pair of shorts on and it was starting to burn my legs i spit on the head and it sizzled is this normal? I probably sound like an idiot but this is my first air cooled atv my Tecate is liquid cooled and doesnt seem to get this hot.

Well, they do get hot, maybe enough to sizzle. Odds are though that you are jetted lean or have an air leak, causing it to be lean.

Post your known mods, jetting, carbsize, elevation, temps and someone will let you know if you are close or way off.

Thanx i know i have some jetting issues. i put in a 350 main of an off brand jet and someone on here told me that the sizes and quality may vary from genuine mikuni. Also may have a bad left side crank seal cuz i took the stator cover off and found wat appeard to be 2 stroke oil behind it think im gonna build a leakdown tester. I was just trying to get an idea of how hot they get.

well i had a trailtech engine temp thingy on my white one. it had the sensor under the sparkplug.
i peaked 412 degrees one day or hard riding and then sitting and idling a bit which i dont recommend when hot

like i said, that was PEAK temp. it showed me current and maximum of everything. pretty cool but idk if needed.

other people have done FLIR pictures. there is a thread somewhere
some people have taken temp guns and checked different fins etc.

is there a said "temp" that the cylinder/head should be? No. as long as it isnt excessive. everything affects it

jetting, air leak, ambient temp, how long its been running, moisture probably, elevation and so on. even paint!
