Hello everyone, new to the site. Also a new Blaster owner. I really want to get this machine going. Here is the deal. I got a good deal on a broken 96, the guy said he tried to kick start it and it fired up but he immediately heard rattling in the clutch case, so he took the case off and the primary drive gear (the little gear on the the end of the basket) broke in half, the inside of the clutch boss was also broken, 3 of the clutch spring mounting stems were broken off inside of the clutch boss, I wondered what it could be, and got it becasue the crank turned smoothly, there is decent compression and the gears all seemed to work. SO I bought a new clutch assembly on ebay, I got it installed, I think I did it right, but maybe not. Anyway I got the kick start assembly in, new case gasket and fresh oil. I got it started, and it ran really rough, it backfired then died, I got it started again, and I tired to put it into gear, it flew backwards, even with the clutch pulled in, and the kick starter punched a hole into the case. I have done some reading and it looks like it is fairly common that these can shear a key on the flywheel, I will check that tomorrow, the guy just put in a new stator and flywheel, so I know that is where the running backwards deal is. My 2 BIG questions are, How is it possible for the kick starter to goe backwards into the case like that? And whe nI did the clutch the only thing that struck me as odd, this might seem stupid, but I have never done a clutch on a small engine, only cars and trucks, When I got the basket on, then the thrust plate, then the clutch boss, then the lock washer , then the nut. I torqued the nut to 58 ft lbs per spec, well it seemed to me the clutch boss should spin freely at this point, it was not free at all and turned rigidly with the clutch basket, am I wrong or did I miss something there, is that normal for it to be like that after torqueing the nut?. Any input would be great. I just want to know if its possible for the kick start to come back that way form the engine running backwards and if I did the clutch right. HELP!!!
