anyone ever try running e-85 instead of race fuel any better any diff jetting required its alot cheaper than race fuel so i was just wondering if it would work

i have a buddy that runs ethanol in his carts, he knows all about that sh*t so ill ask him what its supposed to do tomorrow at work!

The float valve seat dos'nt like ethanol. There is also less energy in ethanol, which is why e85 users complain of loss in MPG.

For those of you that noticed my honda in my pics,

We ran E85 because it's more like a 100-110 octane pretty much cheaper than race fuel.

and it does run cooler if i remember correctly but it took some time on the dyno to tune right with it.

i loved the stuff for that but i doubt i would want to try it in my quad.

maybe for safety like all out at the dunes instead of AV-GAS but who knows.

I would NOT use e-85,,,, I am a mechanic and yes e-85 burns hotter and i would think just like in a car that is not flex fuel you would burn through rings like mad. you dont have valves on 2 stroke but even the rings in a flex fuel car are chrome plated to withstand high temp.... another thing is the knock.... "for any mechanics out there"..., but to save alot of explaining lets just say I highly advise against it... and oldschool nothing bad but while I would not run it on a 2 stroke... I would not even humor the Idea on a 4 stroke due to valve's, I dont think it would take any time at all to go through some valve seats,,, and you also want to look at any place the fuel go's from gas lines to float seat because e-85 has a different ppm. which is sorta like a retro fit from R-12 to R-134 in an AC system, all hoses have small holes in them,,, kinda like stirafoam when you change fuel you change you ppm. allowing fuel to seap through the lines and such,,,,,, also things like S.S. gas tanks are used in flex fuel vehicles due to it being VERY corrosive. " think of the fuel that gets into the case now you have carrosive liquid runnin on yur main bearings....so i dont know about yall but me I dont want that runnin through my bike, I'd just stick with what works.

also consider, as some one else said,,, e-85 will give you a loss of power as well as poor mileage.
according to my college profesor e-85 is cheaper but with poor economics e-85 will not save you money what a user will gaine from e-85 is E.P.A "enviromental protection agency" freindliness it is cheaper and will take you less distance meaning in the end you will be spending the same money ""in a car this is"" however it dose burn cleaner and so really a flex fuel vehicle is for the tree hugger and if you are ridin a 2 stroke you are no tree hugger =)
teacher sais e-85 is like a pit stop on the way to something better and will not last.
I took a college class "science of renewable energy" it gets us mechanics out of astronamy BS. and asked many question pertaining to this, these are just some of the things i remember. if it hadnt been 2 semesters ago I could probly explain better =)

lol...i dumped some blendzal in my ranger the other day, and i think the oil actually helped it!!!it must of cleaned the valves or somthing!!

thanks for the info guys i didnt know so i figured i would ask first i was just wondering because it is cheaper than race fuel i wont be running that in mine thankyou

I have been running methanol for the last year, but am now running E85. I had to re-tune the carbs (two HL380B tillotson carbs), because the air/fuel ratio for E85 is about 9/1 and the methanol was about 6/1. I never changed the pipe I have been running (custom), however, I discovered that the EGT from alky is slightly cooler than gasoline. Most of the pipe calculations use 1700 ft/sec as the speed of sound (gasoline), however, I am guessing the speed for ethanol to be somewhere around 1440 ft/sec (anyone have a "better" guess??). The advantage of alky is the cooling of the mixture as it evaporates (heat of vaporization?), which helps a LOT to keep these air cooled engines a bit cooler. I am switching to E85 because I don't want to pay $6.80 for methanol anymore when E85 is about $3.30.
