Hey guys I got this 94 blaster that do not start up. Previous owner says it started but it wouldn't stay running. It has good compression and I don't believe it was getting spark. I took the plug out and laid it against the head did not get any spark when kicked. I'm getting ready to order a cdi and coil should I buy the voltage regulator also? Im not sure if light work, rear light removed. I tried searching the forum for my answer but had no luck.

Also which cdi to get? Quad boss, rick's, or .....?

The regulator only controls the lighting circuit, it has no bearing on the ignition as it is a completly different circuit.

If you need to run lights a regulator is needed to stop bulbs from blowing due to over voltage.

Before you order a CDI or a coil it may pay to put a meter over the stator coil to see if it is within specs.

just like Blaaster said, you only need it if you run lights. you can run your blaster all day long with no voltage regulator.

It is usually best to start at the scource and work outward, if the stator coil is poor nothing in line with it will work.

Actually best idea would be to test everything. Only thing that can't be tested is the cdi unit. Start by unplugging the TORS "BRAIN BOX" under the hood, then check for spark. Check ALL wire connections that they are clean and tite. Doesn't hurt to put dielectric grease on all conections. Coil mount and grounds MUST be clean bare metal. Make sure on/off and ign switch are working properly. Either a Clymers or download manual will be your friend.
