Do clutches seize up very often?

I just bought a blaster from a guy who said it wouldn't go into gear anymore. Runs awesome . But just makes a nasty click or two when you try to put it in gear and immediatly dies. The clutch and friction plates were stuck together pretty good when I tore it down. I had to pry them apart like they had glued themselves together. They also left little stains or marks from the friction plate on the pressure plates so I know it wasn't spinning freely. I also noticed the little footprints the fricton plates left were dry as a bone. The oil was a lightish gray color and it didn't smell like your normal engine oil either. It had a strange odor. Nor did it have a good consistency. Regardless this clutch is shot and I need to replace it. I just wanted a second opinion before I order parts.

you will def need a new clutch pack, upgrade to barnett or ebc.
i'd inspect the center hub and the basket for wear as well. if the friction and steel plates were fused together, then you could have some damage to the hub and basket. in which case you should upgrade.
