I might get a 1988 TRX 250R and I heard that the '86 pistons are better. So if I order a 1986 pro-x piston for a 265 size cylinder will it work? It will be a fresh sleeve, and I will have it ported for woods.

The Long Rod crank and 87-89 piston kit is how the 87 to 89 engines were designed to run by Honda. Excellent combination, stick with it until you get to 68 MM bore, then go to the 85-86 piston kit plus 3/16" spacer plate to continue bore sizes to 69.50 MM. As stated; use the reed spacer plate to help in fitment; don't worry about performance differences as they will be very minimal.

Ok, will do.
