Cuts out at full throttls

Pardon my ignorance, I ride a Rappy 700 with mods and I just bought the wife a 2000 Blaster which is a 2 stroke and a new animal to me. Love the little quad, perfect for her being as little as she is. However, as I am running through the gears, I am getting slight hesitation, not too bad, seems better when it is fully warmed up. (no I do not try and rev it hard until it warms up for the person who was thinking about commenting on this point) My question is this: The blaster appears to have great power, starts to rev hard and gets on the pipe, then it feels like the pipe goes away at 3/4 - wide open throttle. Why might this be happening? I bought a carb rebuild kit today (my friend I bought it from said it was pissing gas not too long ago) because I think the float is sticking and I know it sat a lot because it is still on the original tires with good tread. Any info you guys might be able to give me as to why this might be happening is great.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Any mods ? What kind of pipe is on it? The stock petcock is small you can use a banshee petcock and bigger fuel line for more flow also the stock airbox is restrictive a uni pod filter with a short velocity stack will increase airflow as well rejetting is required for these mods but they will increase throttle response and performance throughout the powerband

sound's like it could be a float adjustment or dirty carb. maybe the reeds are worn out. need's new spark plug. tons and tons of things that it could be. just start elemenating them one by one

Like previously stated there are alot of things that could cause this.
Sounds like it could be running lean or running out of gas.
Either way running lean is universally bad for gas motor.
Some things to check would be a dirty in tank fuel filter, too small main jet in the carb,
air leak at the reeds/carb joint/intake boot,
air leak in the left side crank seal.

try disconnecting the tors and see what happens

All stock motor. I will rebuild the carb this weekend and see what is happening. It is not a huge power loss, but it kicks off the pipe at WOT when it should just ride it out until I let off the gas. Like I said, it probably has old gas and a gummed up carburetor. I was also thinking the reeds, but the thing is, it is only on its 3rd fill up on the oil injection and the original tires, so I find it hard to believe that the reeds would be worn out. It might also be my mind thinking something is wrong just because I usually ride a 64HP modded raptor and it makes this bike feel so much slower. What can I do to get more crisp throttle response and what is a TORS?

you didn't say that it had old gas in it. that is probably a big part of the problem. some nice aftermarker reeds will give it better throttle responce. or you could upgrade to a vforce 3 reed cage that will make a pretty good difference better than just aftermarket replacement reeds. I would look into getting an oil injection block off too. those things can die on you and blow your engine without warning. mix your own gas 32/1

How often do the oil injector systems break down? As little army wife will ride it, I hate to put too much$ into it when it will not be ridden to much. Also, my friend told me he just drained the gas the day before he gave it to me and put in fresh stuff. I am now betting on a gummed up carb. I willcheck the reeds while I am at it.

the leak down tester is like 30 bucks and the oil block off is the same price. 60 bucks for a great running quad is cheap to me! if it is the reads let me know and i have a stock reed cage with a good set of stock reeds on it i will give to you for 10 bucks just to cover the shipping.

Thanks a lot man, I appreciate the information. Do you think the tests are necessary when it has so few hours on it? I mean, maybe if I replace the carb insides and it still runs terrible, then I will. Also, the carb rebuild kit I got says 1988-1998. Will it work on my 2000 or is it s different carb?

Pretty sure any year up to 2002 is interchangable...

just make sure the gasket matches the float bowl , the jets used are mikuni hex jets , if you rejet make sure you don't lose the little washer that goes on before the main jet , because then you'll never figure it out . TORS is the throttle override system that will shut down the bike if the throttle gets stuck , overtime its been known to cause intermittent problems and non starting problems as well.

Is this the TORS wire I can disconnect if I don't want/need it? I made sure it is not the ignition wires which are also black with a white stripe:
