counterbalancer?

it is inside the motor just above tour clutch it runs off a gear that is ran off a gear from the crank. it counter balances your crank shaft somehow i know how it works but cant explain it well enough to make sence

it makes your quad not vibrate like a mofo..also it it takes some power from your crankshaft having to turn it around..

yeah you can either take the gear off that turns it or remove the whole system.i dont run one in my drag quad.it will vibrate pretty bad and may get annoying for just general trail riding.you will pick up a lil HP and rev alot faster though.is it worth it???to some it may be to some it may not..all matter of opinion.

i wouldnt do it for a trail quad.. probably best for only drag applications

would it cause damage to even a drag quad not having one?

some internal bearings may wear a little faster over the years..the vibes will also make bolts come loose alot easier.nere saw a frame or anything breaking from it.i have never had a problem.

i would say paulies yz400 vibrates about the same as the 244 drag blaster
..tolerable for a while but not ideal for a long trail ride atleats not for my likeing ..less weight = less wait

no , the counterbalncer does the work ,now you could lighten the counterbalncer but if your going that far for power you might as well remove it and its drive gear ,a drag lightened flywheel no counterbalancer aftermarket ingiton and lots of timing
can make for some ultra fast revs i will say ,not something id do unless i was racing i n straight line drags exclusivley

this vid will give yo uan idea of some quick revs and response on a drag 244cc
it has the list of mods above and more (obviously lol)

anything is possible i suppose but that would kinda negate any gain you got by trying to lighten the flywheel all around its diameter to reduce enertia every ounce taken off the flywheel is actually equal to three once its rotational if that makes sense,it makes more sense ot reduce the flywheel considering its a much bigger diameter and more weight therfore more load on the crank to spin ..no counterbalancer is for drags only as your hands could go numb after 10minutes

vibrations are evil longevity wise. for dragging, toss it, if your trail riding keep it. the vibrations (harmonics) will fatigue the frame and it will start cracking eventually. especially on thefront motor mounts. the lifespan of the main bearings etc will also be decreased
