Hey guys i recently rebuilt my bottom end with new crank, main bearings and all. However i failed to notice that the outer bearing on the counterbalancer is going bad and has alot of play in it and makes the bottom end noisy when riding. I pulled my clutch cover and grabbed the gear and it has alot of slop. Now how bad would the motor vibrate if i just took the balancer gear off and ran it without it? I'm pretty sure some guys have probably done this for drag racing, just wanting some opinions. I really don't want to re-split the cases for this :( But i also don't want this thing to shake my teeth out when i ride it lol

Why half ass it? Replace the bearing(s)!
Your going to take it back apart to remove a part thats is supposed to be in there
(which makes ZERO sense),SO.... Why not do it correct? How did you fail to see this during the rebuild??? It was right in front of you.

There's never time to do it correct the first time, but always time to go back and do it again.

I don't get it.

The counter balancer is there for a reason...to counterbalance and keep things SMOOTH. Think about it.

This is equal to getting a flat tire on your car,but instead of replacing it with the spare thats in the trunk, you decide to just run it on three wheels.

well i guess i took it for granted since this is the 4th blaster motor that i've split and out of the dozen or so motors i've split over the years this is the 1st that i've needed to replace anything other than the main bearings.

Well wether the bearing went first or the gear took out the bearing, the end result is that I need a new case half.
I've seen mention of shaved balancers but never omitting it. I would bet the engine would self destruct in short order, IF you could stand to run it that long, you couldn't beleive how bad it shakes without it.

BTW, my son's friend was riding it when it went south, I'm sure that there was indications of trouble before it chunked the case.

Do not take the gear off. When I got mine I could barely get it over half throttle cause it would viberate to the point I could barely hold on. Turns out the gear was only off by two teeth so I could only imagine what it would be like with out it at all

well being out of time would be worse than not on at all. bc its designed to be opposite of the throw of the crank.. dirtbike motors don't have counterbalancers. however i've heard that dirtbike motors in quad frames vibrate pretty bad. i'm just gonna split the cases and replace the bearing. I can have the motor off the frame and split in about 2-2 1/2 hrs. isn't that bad.
