hey guys, i recently came up with the bright idea to buy, fix and re-sell dirt bikes and atvs so i can save up for a newer dirt bike (2006 or newer KX250F) i was thinking about buying a blaster to race but i cant seem to get my current dirt bike sold even for the great price of $800 (books for 1140) but my dads letting me scrap a bunch of our unwanted stuff (old POS truck, 2 old POS lawn mowers, and some alluminum we've collected) if our calculations are correct i should get about $400 which is enough to buy this i think 98 blaster that is supposed to have a blown top end i think they are asking $250 so i figure a top end is about $150 so theres my $400 then i could sell it for around a grand at least $800 so i would double my money then repeat untill i'v raised around 2k sound like a good idea?

sorry for the rambling lol my main question is, is it worth the gamble to try and fix it (hope nothing else is wrong) and will i get $800 from it?

you could probably sell it for 800. but it will take a while. i had the same hopes as you, i went to an auction actually yesterday and was planning on buying a blaster they were selling. well i got there, and the thing had no exhaust, no clutch, plastics missing, and a pry bar shoved through holding the swingarm to the frame. it was a huge p.o.s. i was gonna buy it and part it out on here to try to make money. some idiot bought it for nearly $300 :o

my bad, its a 99 model for $200

1999 yamaha blaster

there's also this 04 for $500 (gotta be a catch right?)

04 blaster CLEAN! 500$ or trade

and this 98 roller

1998 Yamaha Blaster

or this 96

1996 Blaster

what do you think i should get?

btw, i live in WV but can travel to PA, OH, VA, KY, and possibly MD so if you fellas can help me look for deals on blasters or well anything i could fix and re-sell for under $400 post it up here if ya could :)

wow! talk about ghetto lol i guess $300 is an ok price if you had the time to part one out.

btw, nice signature pic is that your bike? and is that your girl? lol there both beautifulI:I

its an alright idea, but by the time you spend money on gas to pick it up, extra gaskets, brakes, tires, etc whatever it needs to be in selling position , you aren't left with much profit only because the blasters aren't worth very much to start out with.

I'd save the cash you get for scrap , get a summer job doing anything you can and save up . Odds are your top end job will go over 150 bucks .

yeah, true

i would but summer jobs are hard to find, i mean i have a summer job that pays $6 an hour (working in the hay feild) but all the other workers d*ck around and dont start work untill august so we only get 1 cut and i only make about $80 and i have a weed eating job from the same guy that i work in the hay for and i mean he weed eats everything lol so thats probly $60 plus whatever i get if i mow his yard but he usually mows since he has a riding mower, he just cant weed eat. it sucks to becuase my freind gets alot of jobs and he isn't even deppendable, he only works if he needs something (bike parts or gas) i guess the tall skinny boy is more appealing to people as a worker compared to the short fat pimple faced boy (me)

it is possible to make some money fixing these bikes up but you really need to inspect the bike that your buying for things that need fixed and try and find one with some kind of aftermarket parts mainly exhausts and good tires. you can EASILY get in over your head buying parts and spend hr's in labor especially if you need to do a total rebuild of a motor. i for one would rather fix bikes than part them out :)
