I took the clutch out of a blaster I pick up and the small ball that fits between the two clutch shafts was missing. This may seem dumb but has anybody ever used a BB it its place? I really dont want to wait to order the ball from Yamaha. Has anybody ever tried this? I am just wondering is a bb is hard enough to stand up to the use.

I dont know about a bb, but it is a 3/16" ball bearing, and may be available from a hardware store like true value, coast to coast, any place that has a big selection of odd fasteners and hardware. (I have got them from our True Value before, for other things) Fowlrocks was gone, and I actually had a drawer full of them and they were from a bicycle neck, they were the right size, so if you have a junk bike laying around, it may be the answer too. (Im good at tearing stuff apart!!) If you have a drill bit index (some times you might get a cheap plastic one in the mail from advertising companys), or a drill bit set that has different size holes for different drill bits, that seem to fit pretty tight, you can try to drop a random ball bearing you find into the holes, starting on the small side, and you want one that wont fit until you get to 3/16". It is a fairly common size, so it shouldn't be a big deal.

If you have no luck, (after atleast trying) let me know, and I could send you one from my drawer.

I wish I were I need this thing. I work at NAPA maybe I will just buy a cheap bearing and cut it open.

yeah, i wouldn't use a bb. it's under extreme heat. i just had a $250 repair because the ball welded itself to the two push rods. So make sure it can stand up to high heat and make sure to use lithium-soap based grease as the manual says when reinstalling the push rods and ball-bearings

good call I went to precision bearing here in Omaha. I bought 15 of them since they were .06 a piece and I buy and sell blasters all the time.

Hey man, how do you know that the ball is missing? I had this same problem while replacing my clutch and clutch basket. I got everything removed and I heard stories on here that the BB just falls out of the crank. Well nothing fell out and i tipped my quad to see if it was in there and still nothing came out. So i ordered one of those damn balls and decided before i install it, let me just triple check there is no ball in there. I took a strong magnet and rubbed it against a skinny nail for probably 4 minutes nonstop. Stuck it in the crank, pulled it out and the f*cking ball was on the end of the nail! It totally delayed my build but hey, atleast I know now.
