Ok so apparently I am useless at the most simple of things. Got my new clutch cable in today and went to put it on... Did everything just like the old cable was. My old cable had broken off at the lever. ( don't laugh cause it worked ok) but I had taken a pair of vice grips and used them to pull the cable. Anyways it was working. I pulled the old cable off put new one on and now I have no clutch. I can even reach down with my hand and push the clutch lever on the motor and still nothing. When I pull the clutch lever it moves the lever on the motor but it's like there is no tension to pull it back. God I hope it's something simple
Here is a picture of my deer camp clutch cable fix for your comical enjoyment :)

im betting its just the adjustment, usually the yamaha manual has a spec in it and notches on the engine to align the arm on the engine, then you fine adjust from there. did you pull the lever off from the engine and maybe not put it back at the proper "clock" position?

I:I same thing happend to me when i put on a new clutch cable. kevinsranger is right on the money!

I didn't pull the lever off the motor. It's in the same position that it has always been in. Like I said could even just reach down with my fingers and push it and it just feels very very loose. I'll pull the clutch basket this weekend and see if anything is loose/broken. I adjusted the cable to where it should be and it was pulling the clutch. But it was almost as if that little lever on the motor wasn't attached to the clutch assembly anymore. Can that happen?

when taking off the clutch cable, the lever could move if pushed hard enough. first thing i would do is inspect ur lever and make 100% sure it is aligned with the line on the cases. second thing i would do is take the clutch cover off and pull in ur clutch and make sure ur clutch basket is engaging(you can tell by looking at the clutch basket and seeing if it pops out a little when you pull in the clutch). once u eliminated those steps then you should move on to the deeper problems like clutch assembly.

i've had the actuator side push rod slip past the flat spot on the actuator while changing a clutch cable.

pull the actuator up out and look down in there with a flashlight, the rod should be barely sticking into that cavity, if it's out too far, you can use a small screwdriver to push it back clutch side way
then put the actuator rod back down in with the flat spot facing the rod and give it another try

this is also a typical symptom of the ball bearing welded to the push rod or the jam nut coming loose from the clutch side rod.
did you happen to hold the clutch lever in too long at high rpm's ?

try relocating the actuator to rod alignment first, then it's time to pull the clutch cover to inspect the jam nut, and/or pull the pressure plate to see if the ball is welded to the rod.
