if I run a 15 tooth front and 40 tooth rear will i have to add or remove a link from the chain??

and if I run a 15 front and 38 rear will i have to add or remove a link from the chain??

no...stock will work for both those setups, theres enough play both ways in the stock chain for those lengths. I have messed with both those gear setups with a stock chain

after trying almost all setups im running 14/40 with 18" rear tires now. think of the swingar,.both sprokets and the rear tires as a system.they all work together and when switched around make a big difference. its all personel pref though and depends on where you want your power.the longer the swinger the more power goes to the ground..i think 14/40 with 18's is a good all around trail and mx setup..i use to have 22's in the rear and my bike was all top end with the front 14...thats why i run the 18's now..its like i have an extra gear on the top end but it still shoots hard out of the hole. i dont like stock 13 on the front cause its all low end, its like a wheelie machine..lol..and i think 15 on the front is too much high...but like i said, its all personel pref and riding habits. my rear tires are setup smaller then my front, and when i first go t my blasty i got the idea of that tire setup and gear ratio from the stage three blaster that project blaster built..and i like it !!!
good luck bud...ride hard !

yea im running 14/40 and 18's but my bike feels like it needs alot more gear for the power i have..i have larger paddle tire's and the bike still could use more gear i can dump it in second in sugar sand and rip it. there is no first gear needed at all even for hill climbing.. im hoping to change that.. lol.. my girls bike is also 14/40 with 18's and i think if i up it. It would fall on it's face.. for sure.

well..its all in opinion......i bought 13,14,15 sunstAR front, and two different size rears and spent a day just f&%king around and eneded up sticking with the 14/40...it just felt good..lol and allot of guys run that setup..just mess around with it. I have a track in my back yard that we keep groomed. my buddy has a few bobcats for his landscaping business.. so i ride on fairly dry dirt and well maintained. if you ride in a bunch of mud then you may want 20's or 22's...all in what your into, ya know.but to get back to your post..a stock chain length will certainly work for those gear setups..been there ,done that !!!
