In your dreams.
I was having a problem with the float in my carb. I was stalling out every so often to where I would have to shake the carb or turn the fuel to reserve for a few seconds to start up again.

I removed the carb and cleaned everything up and reinstalled. However, now when I kick it over it doesn't run strong. It just kind of putters and then stalls.

What could be causing this? An air leak somewhere? Grrrrrrrrr...

Thanks!

Sounds like it is starving for fuel, take the fuel line off the carb. with the fuel valve in the off position and turn it to on position and make sure it it flowing out of the tank with a good stream, cause you might have some dirt clogging up the pitcock. and if that works fine then it is inside the carb.

Sounds like you did something wrong when you put the carb back together.

Your post doesnt make a lot of sense man. Your carb wouldnt have anything to do with what came out of your petcock. If you switch it to reserve and it starts, then it isnt your carb, it is your petcock or fuel tank.

So, your initial issue makes no sense. Why would switching your switch to reserve fix a problem you are having with your carb?

And along that same line of thinking, if you took the carb apart to clean it and now it doesnt run correctly, then doesnt that tell you specifically its something inside your carb isnt correct, and you should probably backtrack your steps, take it apart again and make sure you put everything back in properly. Make sure your jet is secure. Make sure your jet isnt clogged. Remove the pilot jet and make sure its clean. Clean it just to be sure. Make sure your float isnt stuck.

We really need to know you did what you were supposed to correctly. Your issue is most definately in your carb becuase thats the last thing you played with.

Yeah, your original problem is kinda fishy. Turning to reserve just gets you to a lower pickup point in the tank. It's actually amazing how much fuel is still in the tank when it runs dry on "ON". About two inches or so. You coulda just been running out of gas.

This reminds me of a prob I had a couple of weeks ago, though. Ended up having water in the tank.
Drain some fuel from the tank (through the petcock) while on Reserve into a glass jar. Let the fuel settle for a couple of minutes. If there is water present, it will form beads/bubbles on the bottom of the jar cuz water is heavier than gas. I ended up pouring all the gas into a VERY clean bucket, letting it sit for a while before carefully pouring most of it back into my newly flushed tank with its freshly cleaned petcock. Since the water stayed on the bottom, I didn't lose too much of my $6 a gallon race gas!

To my original problem:

It would stall and when I switched it to reserve, a little gas would drain out of the overflow hose onto the ground. I would then switch it to "on" and it would start again. It may sound fishy or whatever, but I am just telling what happened.

What would cause this draining of gas from the overflow / drain line that comes out of the carb?
