Well, I hadn't rode my blaster in a couple weeks, and I went to start it the other day, and got nothing. So, I stuck a new plug in it, thinking that might be the problem, since I have it jetted a little rich, still nothing. So I pulled the carb, it was a little gummed up, cleaned it out, and drained the gas tank, and put some new fresh gas in it. Still nothing... The only thing it does now, is backfire through the exhaust every 3rd or 4th kick...

Anybody have any ideas??

Thanks
Austin

I'd have to have spark to backfire. The new plug is gapped correctly? Have you tried pouring gas on the plug then putting it back in for a kick or 2? Your sure the carb is completely cleaned out? Gas flowed smooth through the petcock draining the tank?

you would only have to have some spark for it to backfire. if the spark is intermittent that will cause backfiring and not running

I always have the same problem when I haven't ridden in a while also. I just kick the sh*t out of it for a while until it finally starts. It really helps to start it about once a week even if you aren't riding, then mine always starts. But I keep it at a friends house so it's not always easy to do.

So, I pulled the carb back off and cleaned the crap out of it. Now if I kick the crap out of it, it will almost bust off, it's so close to starting, but just wont quite do it.

I do have spark, and I pulled the reeds, three out of four were not laying flat, and one was bent kinda bad. I did pull the plug and pour a little gas into the cylinder, but still couldn't get it to start.

So, I ordered a set of reeds, and hope that fixes my problem.

a reed petal bent up too far will cause it to cough but not start.

also same for a broken reed petal.

when you cleaned it did you also clean out the pilot jet?

the pilot jet controls start and idle, along with the choke circuit.

you can easily clean the pilot jet using a bread tie with the plastic coating removed.

take the pilot jet out and run the bread tie wire through it.
if it was gummed up the pilot jet most likely was gummed too, being the smallest jet it doesnt take much to clog it up.

do you shut off the gas and idle it until the bowl is dry before parking it? bad gas/oil can gum up a carb superfast . I always shut off the fuel and run the bowl dry everytime I park it , even if I'm riding the next day .

isn't it bad for a 2 stroke to run it out of gas?

yes overtime the lean condition that running it out of gas causes will wear out your rings.

takes a while depending on how often you ride.

it's better to turn the atv off, turn the fuel off and drain the bowl via the bowl drain screw.

im gonna say your pilot jet. that seems to be the problem everytime i have trouble. stupid little bitty hole can stop up so easy.
