So as I was riding the other day my front brake lever snapped, as being kind of new to this stuff I was wondering if there is a specific type of lever I have to buy? Or do I need to buy the entire perch and lever? Any help would be greatly appreciated
So, if yours is a 90, it should have the parking brake feature included in the front brake lever. So. here are your options.
1. Buy a new lever only from Yamaha for about $20
2. Buy a complete used front brake lever assembly from a 90-02 Blaster for about $20
3. Buy this 88-89 lever assembly and delete the parking brake feature.
Then you have an 88 or 89. Check the 10th digit of your vin. The 88-89 front brake levers are difficult/impossible to get new. I think I bought the last new one in the US. So now your choices are to buy that used assembly that I linked or do a hydraulic conversion.
Oh, just remembered, if by chance you have an 88, you will have the dreaded upper and lower pinch bolt spindles. If that's the case, you will need 89-06 lower A arms to do the hydraulic conversion.
