Both brakes engage

I am wondering if it is normal for the rear brake to also engage while the front brake is pulled. While one is pushed the other cannot be pulled (by me) I believe they are both engaging though. Will the parking brake block off alleviate this? Thank you for your thoughts! Also unrelated but what wrench do you guys use to get the four top end bolts tightened down? I cant seem to get one in there.

I did not realize they were 12MM thats my problem. Could this both engaging be due to not having a shorty cable?

the emergency brake cable is the only connection between the front brake lever and the rear brakes.

the E-brake is actuated by pushing down a button then pulling the lever in and locking it into the pulled position.
the 88-02 models it is on the right side front brake lever
the 03+ hydro brake models it is on the clutch lever.

something is sticking or "engaged" at your lever for it to operate the rear caliper.

I am unaware if it is operating both. I know for a fact I cannot engage the rear brake when the front is pulled. I have a 1990 blaster. I hope this helps clarify. It is the original cables so I ordered a shorty cable

ok so I believe that the pin that engages the parking brake is locked in place. that is why it pulls both cables at once. I hope that makes sense. Is there an easy removal for this? I dont want to wait for a block-off plate in the mail!

unhook the cable at the caliper

assuming this is an 03+ blaster with hydro brakes, and the e-brake cable is on the clutch lever ?..........

if you're planning on getting a blockoff plate, just remove cable from lever to caliper.
I haven't had an e-brake for over 6 years on either of my blasters and can't remember missing it at all.

its actually a 1990 if that clears anything up. Its a cable and its connected to the right front brake lever! I don't really care about the ebrake but I am curious how to remove the pin from the handle bar to disable it. I dont believe it is sticking. It is the push down triangle piece on the front lever. Thats why I was wondering if a shorty cable would alleviate this.

Just an update about the brakes if anyone is interested. I guess the pin for the parking brake fell down into the hole. I pulled it out and pulled the plate holding it. Reversed the pin so it doesn't engage. works great now. This was after my shorty cable install so wasted 15! but I kind of like it anyways cleaner!
