Blew a Gasket

Well i finally got my blaster back together. Didnt do any engine work. redid everything else. had it out the other day and blew the cylinder base gasket. i was just going to replace the gasket because the bike has good compression and it ran like a raped ape. took off the cylinder and saw some marks i didnt like. the cylinder wall had alot of horizontal score marks on it. So now i am in the middle of doing a poet and polish on the exhaust and than its getting sent out to KOR. already talked to Ken and i cant wait to it back. getting a head mod done as well. does anyone from PA or anyone in general know were i should start with jetting once i have the top end back?? I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANKS TO KEN OCONNER FOR HIS PORTING VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE THEY HAVE BEEN VERY HELPFUL DOING THIS PORT AND POLISH JOB

You need to get a leak down tester before you ride. I bet you had an air leak for some time with that base gasket.

Sorry to hear your un fortune, but i believe you sent it to the right place. As far as jetting you should post all your mods..

I'd say 280 maybe 290 if you are premixing. Plug chop to be sure.

Pre mix or oil injection and what ratio.

Elevation.

All these extra factors need to be known to guesstimate the jetting.

Tho it's easy to make a gasket, there are two things to consider. Thickness of material and type. Wrong thickness would mess with squish on modded head. Wrong material might blow out again. They're cheep, why chance it?

airbox lid is off and i premix. not sure of elevation i have to find that out but i live in PA

Thanx man that would be great....its going to be a little while i still have to send my jug and head to KOR. Im in the middle of doing a port and polish job on it now so as soon as that is done im sending it to KOR.

couldnt buy a gasket. money is really tight so i made a base gasket out of a cerial box. took it out and put it to the test and its holding up so far.

So far so good, but leak test it before and after each 5 minutes of riding, because that paper gasket is going to cause a problem when you least expect it.

Even factory made paper gaskets will leak.

thats not gonna hold long, thats why kor tells you to buy yamaha or cometic gaskets, cuz the other are made out of paper/cardboard, and blow out causing motors to blow.
