I have a 01 blaster. I just went through the entire engine new crankbearings and seals, new piston and gaskets, everything. I started the other day for the first time and it fired right up. After I shut it off I couldn't get it started again and when I finally did it will run for a few seconds then it will backfire and die. I have tried a new coil, have changed the reeds, and cleaned the carb. Not sure what else I should try if it would be the flywheel and stator or something else. Any ideas?

spark plug could have fouled a bit, if its black and full of stuff you need to change your jets because your running rich, if its really white looking your running lean and need to change your jets. lean means go higher, rich means go lower..

im not a expert in these things but it shudve been broken in the right way if not u cudve fried the piston and it bakfires wen u get bad compression... or the boots rnt on the carb all the way and its catching some air not letting it start i dont think u will bakfire from a bad plug unless u r kicking it 20 times to hear a lil pop but then again im not a pro just check the boots and take the head off to see if u have a fried piston i wud chek piston b4 buying anithing

I have changed the plug and checked the piston. The jetting is the same as it was before I rebuilt it so it should be a good starting point. But it doesn't run long enough to even color the plug.

have you took your carb apart checked and cleaned it? i know you said you did but almost sounds like a plugged pilot jet.

Yeah the carb is clean. I even pulled a carb off another blaster to see if that would make a difference and it didn't help.

Backfiring is usually related to spark timing. Maybe your flywheel is loose or slipped on the key? Since it started fine, then died suddenly, I would give that a check.
