Hey guys, I have a 2001 blaster. I have had it for a couple of months, and it has run fine. Recently, I was riding and I heard a pop, and it purred down to a stop. I first thought that it was the carb, but I went through it completely, and found nothing wrong with it. I have a spark from the plug, but it almost seems like it cant keep up with the gas flow. One ride before this happened, I put new oil in and filled the tank with 110 octane gas. The engine will start with starting fluid, but the bike stops once it is out of the system. Any suggestions as to what might have happened/how I can fix it?

Welcome to BF dirt pile I:I

Wish I had a dollar for every first post I've seen that starts out "My $hit is broke" :o, no offense :D

As to you problem, you heard a "pop", likely something broke. Because you don't mention grinding noises or hard kicking, and will fire with starting fluid, it probably isn't a piston. Pull your carb and look at the reeds. If you can't get a good look at them then pull the reed cage, new gasket on assembly.

Almost everything you need to know http://www.blasterforum.com/general-support-17/downloadable-yamaha-blaster-manual-17325/ , tho I prefer a Clymers manual B)

Yeah, I kinda know how that feels. I will have to check the reeds; I went through everything else, but forgot those. I don't know about this, is there a safety on the oil pump that would shut off the engine if its not getting the mix it needs? I know that I had just put more oil in, don't know if that could be a problem. (I was smart and got a Clymers manual:D...it just doesn't have a very good trouble shooting section)

low injection oil does not shut the bike down, as maybe it should ?

my guess, considering you heard a pop, is you sheared a flywheel key, and it is now out of time,
it'll still spark, but at the wrong time

check them reeds and pull the flywheel to check the woodruff key, thats what holds the flywheel on the timing mark

here's some basic troubleshooting.............
