Hey, i have a 01' Yamaha blaster and i cant seem to get it to run properly with the choke pushed in. The bike kicks over 1st kick but while riding and opening up the throttle, i get to 3rd gear, lose power, and the bike starts to sputter. I tried opening up the throttle with the choke all the way out and i didn't have this problem. Keep in mind this bike sat in a garage for over 10 years before i decided to see if i could get it running again. I cleaned out the carb, put a new air filter on and yet still having the same issue. Can anyone give me a better idea of how to go about fixing this? thanks.

If you have a good supply of gas to the carby, try this.

I completely disassembled and cleaned it, put a new plug in. It has fuel from a week ago that i put in on my last ride. it is possible that i did not clean it well enough but i shot cleaner through the jets the best i could. a friend told me it is possible that i am not shifting fast enough, but i feel like it should make it to the top of the gear without losing power and sputtering regardless of how fast i am shifting.

Im not sure what jetting it has.
No mods.

also, with my limited knowledge of the bike (i just started taking it apart and learning how it works) i'm not sure doing a leakdown test on my own is a good idea. granted i haven't watched the posted videos yet.

reclean the carb, using carb cleaner, and small wire to push thru the jet openings, respray with carb cleaner and blow out with compressor if possible.

check your float height while in there.....

check the float valve and needle tip operation while in there, is it shutting off flow completly ? you can check that with a clean piece of hose attached to the fuel inlet, and blowing thru it while working the floats.
clean if needed.......

The pilot jet as small holes down the side of it. Use the little metal wire from a bread tie to clean them out. They clog easy and will give you running problem if there not all cleaned out well.

Here is what I prefer to use:ENGINE DEGREASER : "BERRYMAN" CHEM DIP PARTS CLEANER
Take it apart comepletly, DO NOT soak any rubber or plastic parts. Be sure to remove the pilot jet, as mentioned it has tiny holes, they all must be clean. Also remove the needle jet/emulsion tube, it has small holes on the side.

Presume it has ran like this since you got it started? Also check the silencer for mouse nest.

If this bike has been sitting for 10 years there is a great possibility that the crankshaft seals are at fault, letting air into the crankcase.

A leak test should be performed on every 2 stroke motor that has been sitting for a long period of time.

Then a leak test should be performed twice a riding season so one does have any nasty surprizes creeping up on them.

If on completly cleaning and adjusting the carb the problems still persists, do an air leak test.

Okay, I appreciate all the suggestions. I have a carb cleaner tank that im going to let the carb soak in over night, after removing all the plastics and floats. Tomorrow, i will spray it with the carb cleaner and blow it out with the air compressor. I am also going to look into obtaining a leak tester, after watching the video it looked extremely simple. I have a few more questions though. The pilot jet i have in my carb seems to just have a small threaded screw on top of it and the rest of the jet stays in the carb. What i mean by this is, the piece that unscrews doesn't have any holes in it, it is literally just a small threaded screw. Is the rest of the jet supposed to come out so i can clean it? Would it help if i provided some pics of what the carb looks like inside? Thanks again for all the help everyone.
