there is someone on cl around me that is parting out a blaster and i called to ask how mutch he wanted for a clutch basket and he said he wanted to keep the motor toghter but he said he would sale the motor for 250 should i get it
Well like anything else it depends on condition. If compression is good, no play in the rod, and the cases aren't cracked then yes. If the cases have chain wack and the crank is sloppy then your paying 250 for the top end and some spare parts. Can you hear it run?
I would at least ask him if you can do a quick check of the piston, bore and crank. It's easy and quick enough to remove the head, then pull the jug off the bottom end and check for slop in the crank. You can do a leak test on the motor even if its not in the frame. Check all around the outside of the cases for marks. If there's no leaks and your confident in your visual inspection then BUY IT ! ! !
As long as the motor is in fact mechanically sound it will definitely be worth having to scrounge ! If I was in driving distance I would buy it myself.
