Im probably missing something really stupid...but someone please explain how a screw and nut are supposed to tighten against the steel ball without any external threads to screw into. Am i missing something? heres a pic of where im at. And yes, I know the springs on the pressure plate get tightened down first, i took them off to check for a mistake. I wanna figure out how to adjust the clutch so that it lines up correctly.

ok guys, i figured it out. beings i already started a thread, I might as well ask these next two questions. In the clutch, i put the spring washer disc on after the second graphite disc. is this correct? i have a bit of a gap that you can see. The other question involves my cylinder. I tried to take this engine to a shop and the guy said he doesnt handle engines already broken down, but I had shown him a scuff on my piston. he said it wasnt bad and that i should just sand it flat. I wanna know what you guys think about such advice. pics attached. 3rd pic is of the scratch

Did you do a comp test before you took it apart? How does the cyl look where the scuff is? Are you talking near the rings about even with the notch/cut down at the top, or the booger about half way down?

the scratch actually occurred during the rebuild (which was because of me cracking the case on a snare trap) so compression hasnt been tested since the scratch. I was talking about the one in the dead middle of the piston

The clutch is definitely put together wrong. The wavey spring goes inside the fiber with the bigger hole.

I would be worrying about the damage to the piston by the rings.

It looks as if something has made its way past the rings.

Could you post a pic of the top of the piston?

take the wavy washer and use it for a frisbee, it is unneeded wether you use the cooresponding larger inside diameter fiber it goes inside, or replace it with a full width fiber.
either way it can be left out.

so when i chuck the wave washer i have to replace it with an extra carbon disc? heres more pics of the piston. That wear up by the ring looks worse than it feels. in fact you cant feel it at all running your fingers across it

so when i chuck the wave washer i have to replace it with an extra carbon disc?

no, you can still run the larger inside diameter disc the wave washer did go inside without the wave washer,
or replace that disc with a full size fiber disc.
it's one or the other for a total of 7 fiber discs and 6 steel discs.

you can see in this pic, my driveline clutch kit came with both fibers...........

1. a replacement for the original disc, which is thinner for the wave washer to fit inside, this is usually the second disc from the back.

2. it also came with enough full size fibers (7) to replace that wave washer one with a full size fiber

I have also just replaced that original fiber and left the wave washer out, it's only purpose is to soften the clutch grab for new riders.

Thank you awk! So does the piston advice i received sound bizarre or is it safe to smooth it out and throw it back in there? I plan on selling this quad within 20 hours or so but still don't wanna screw anyone either
