I recently bought an 01 blaster bored out to a 250.
And i raced and stock blaster and a close to stock blaster and both pulled on me no problem. Even if my blaster was stock it seems like it should be able to keep up with them. So what should i have to do to make it run like i should be. What would help, bigger jets, new reeds, new exhaust. We tried taking off the air filter (just for a test run in grass) and then the exhaust to try and help it breath better and it did help. Other than the bore the blasty its all stock. And was bored at a local shop, so I'll call Monday to make sure it was actually done.

We think who ever had the blaster before blew it and bored it out to just get it running and didn't put the effort into the new parts.

I'm new to fixing up 4 wheelers so any help would be great.

Could be they only bored it .050" oversize. Some guys think when you bore an engine "50 over" that your adding 50cc's. Yours is probably .050" oversize (67.25mm). If you run the math for displacement...

Bore(mm) x Bore(mm) x Stroke(mm) x 0.7854 / 1000 = cc's

67.25 x 67.25 x 57 x 0.7854 / 1000 = 202.47cc's

P.S. - It's really not a good idea to run with your exhaust off. To a certain extent, the engine relies on the pipe to maintain it's proper air/fuel ratio, especially in the powerband. It would suck for you to seize it because you removed the pipe.

blasterfreek30- Thanks that did help

diesel- I'm not sure what it's bored too, thats why I'm going to call competition Monday. The guy just told me it was bored to a 250. And we took the exhaust off so to see if it would help it flow better. even if it is the little bore don't you think it should be keeping up with the stock blaster? I didn't stand a chance against it.

Maybe it is bored that big, but it would need to have a 74mm piston if that were the case. I was just suggesting that maybe the guy was confused.

The stocker shouldn't be wasting you in a drag race...something needs tuned/adjusted/cleaned.

Thats what i thought.
Where should i start? I know for one it needs a new air filter. Prolly re-jet and new reeds?

So... I got a pro circuit exhaust (off my neighbors blown blaster) and a brand new air filter and the gears wont wind out, they stop in the mid range and the blaster just sounds like ass now...

if i were you i'd stop riding it and read for a while.... the reason its doing that is you just added a pipe and didnt jet the carb to match. your now running lean which also means your blaster is running hotter than usuall because of running lean and if you run it like that it'll blow up alot sooner than it should.

for a pro circut pipe im thinking you'll probably only have to go up1 jet size and adjust the needle. i'd get a 240 and 250 main while your there just incase. if the filter is also a aftermarket performance filter try the 250 first

just hang around and read up and you'll know everything you neeed to soon enough. these people know their sh*t. im still learning something new evertime i visit the forums

I am with ^^^^ an open airbox and a pipe- you may want to start with an even higher main jet. They cost like $3- a piston kit cost @$100. Start rich and work your way down, always doing a plug chop along the way. An easy way might be to search the forums to find someone with a similar set-up and ask questions. You might have to change both your main, pilot, and clip position on your needle.

i have a 00 blaster with the pro circut pipe, stock reeds, open air box and vito's high flow filter and anything over 250 is too rich to ride for me. i thought it was weird too considering when i was running the same but with fmf fatty in place of the pro circut i was running 280. for some reason pro circuit pipes dont seem to need to jet up much.

^^^^ is the man! I have learned that jets and plugs are cheap. It is the rest of the engine that isn't.

how will i be able to tell if its still running rich? or will i be able to feel it in the gears?

if its really rich still it'll making like a gurgling sputter. when you get it that it feels right then you gotta go to the plug chop and dial it in that way. probably gonna have to play with the needle.

The flathead screw on the outside of the carb by the airbox boot is the air/fuel mix screw. Don't start messin with that yet. The needle is in the slide in the carb. Take off the screw cap to the carb and pull out the slide. Move the spring and take out the little screws. The needle is under that. Groove two is a good place to start, if it ain't there already

I just replaced the pilot and the main jets, the main is a 290, i think, the smallest in a vitos jet kit. But I'm stuck on how to remove the needle, can anyone give me some help?
