building a blaster 490, its a 2000 frame with 03 plastics and a 83 yz 490 motor. do you guys have any advice for me? i got it from a guy that started it as a project, it needs a stator(ordered last night), spark plug, kickstart lever, and some clutch parts for the clutch arm( bearing, seal, and washer.) also when i disengage the clutch all the way, and put it in gear, im not able to spin the drive sprocket.. like the clutch is still engaged. im in the process of getting the electrical all set up. as i said the stator is inthe mail, but this guy hacked the electrical.. the wires are all cut and ugly looking. i was thinking about getting a new cdi and coil because on ebay i found they are pretty cheap.. i cant really afford it but i guess ill have to lol. i want something with connectors, not cut wires soldered together and all hacked up. i am open to all advice and i appreciate the help. thanks

dude i was gunna do the same thing but dont have the money and i think im gunna do a yz250 wen i get round to it good luck tho and get some pics up :P :)

yeah, luckily i recieved it with the motor mounts already fabbed up i just want to get some rubber bushings to help with that monster vibration from the 490 lol. also seeing how the plastics are from a 03 it came with the headlight with all cut wires. so im thinking of doing an air tube in the headlight area so i can direct some air flow for engine cooling. the only thing i dont like is that it is air cooled. i ould much rather have like a 250 water cooled, but the 490 should rip. ill try posting some pics of the project soon.

yeah buy or make some air scoops to try and get as much air as possible on that beastly engine :)

haha the more i think about it the more i want to do it! also, i am still a senior in highschool. im in the auto shop so i am aloud to take it into shop, this is where im going to do all the work. get to use all those shiny tools I:I there is a metal fab shop right next to mine too so i think i am going to go over there and see if they can fab up a duct out of some sheet metal. i wish this thing was finished already! id be rippin it around in the snow right now.. we just got 2 feet last night and with the roads plowed.. ahhhh im going crazy haha theres a nice 2in packed down layer out there just waiting to be ripped up

with these hrybrid quads creativity and all the info u can get is what u need, needs litssa mods to handle vibration, anti vibe bars, better motor mounts, frame needs to be gusseted and the mounts need to be very solid, cause of all the vibes from the engine and the extra power, the pipe is the next issue to sold, i'd talk to paulieb on here, he is the god of that stuff , lol, he runs a drag pipe now, but i'm sure if ur a good enough welder u could make a good pipe, just have to keep in mind that any change u make to the pipe will either positively or negativly influence the power output of the engine, but most of the problems will be making the frame stronger, and finding ways to kill most of the vibes before they reach ur body

The clutch may just be stuck plates from sitting/lack of use or thick oil. Even when fully disengaged there is only a pooty hair clearance between the plates.
