thats it, the last time any bike shop touches my bike, finally got my motor back from the 3rd shop it was at, after being told "we'll do it by next week" by 2 different shops, then find out that their street bike oil changes were more important, finally found one that guarenteed within 1 week, well then they hit me for a new "hot rods crank" ($180)that i knew i didnt need, but left them do it anyway, just so it would get done, so i now have a perfectly good stock crank, i guess to beat some sense into my head with????
anyway, put my "all new" motor in, kicked 'er 3 times and she spang to life, yiiipeeee, right?? not so fast, after spending all nite, warming it up, and lettin 'er cool down, to break in my new bore and weisco piston, figured id go for a little putt this morning, and noticed that my clutch cable needed adjusting at the lever, twice, during my ride.
went for another ride this afternoon and same thing till there was no clutch at all, good thing it was downhill to my house, so after some thinkin, i pulled the clutch cover and see the little nut in the center of my basket danglin by a thread, almost complete disaster,
dont these " certified mechanics" give 2 sh*ts about their work or what???
apparently i've learned more on here since joining in january than these guys do, so i'll be doin all my own work from now on

thanx my blaster forum buddies for allowing me to vent, i may not harm anyone now
hope ya find this story entertaining, i sure did'nt

what did you need done to have the dealer do it?. thats why i try not to go to the dealer unless i need some oil or some thing small other then that i buy off the net and do all the work to my blasty my self.

I've said this before most bike shops pay their mechanics 4.50 an hour and its usually little tweaker mechanics that cant read a micrometer much less know what a torque wrench is.

i have learned enuf on here to do it myself, but was told $110 labor to do a complete motor rebuild, i had all the parts, and got the jug bored myself, but didnt wanna spend the $150 bucks for the 3 specialty tools needed to split cases and pull flywheel and crank, to just have 'em lay around after im done, my '96 blasty lasted me 8 yrs with no work done, ever,
so figured this was a little cheaper???? almost cost me everything, i imagine that nut coming off could have hurt a good bit
lesson well learned,
will be doing all my own work from now on

the first shop i took it too, didnt even have the shop manual, so i gave them a copy on disc , from on here, maybe save some other blaster some harm someday
then took my motor to a yamaha dealer, but still, no pride in their workmanship,
must be nice to be so busy, that you dont hav'ta care 'bout us "little jobs"

Local shops have never, ever, ever touched anything of mine. However If I need some kind of engine work beyond my abilities I wouldn't hesitate to send it off to one of the reputable builders on this site. It's well worth the extra shipping to just send it out to them.

local shops=get it back with something else broken

Did they do the motor right so far, if so the clutch should have never made its way to the shop if u took the motor out to give them.

you guys are all makin a good sense, and yeah i learned a lesson, the hard way, so come on, give it to me, rub it in a little more, i so deserve it, haha,
will have 'er back together tomorrow, had to babysit my sisters little boy tonite, he helped me some, but got cold out in the garage, so called it a nite

I know how u feel. I paid $600 for a top end rebuild. Then later found out how easy it was 2 do it myself and cost under $200. Could of used that other $400 for upgrades. lol

^lol yea could of got it a lot sooner and it would of been new and not used, but everybody needs to learn from there mistakes. lol owell
