Bare Bones wiring harness

My motor just went so after pulling it I decided I might as well go over the whole blaster. I disassembled it and am in the process of painting it as we speak. Back to the point... Well when I first got the blaster, the tail light was missing. So there are two un-necessary wires. The oil injection system was removed (used the block off plate). So there are another two wires. The kill switch below the light switch does not work... and I have not deleted TORS yet, but there will be a few more. While im down this far I figured I would remove the un necessary wires from the wiring harness and re-wrap it. (expecially since the previous owner wrapped the harness with orange electrical tape (yuck). I did browse around but I guess I am not looking in the right spot. I was wondering if there is a list of the necessary wires only (color codes and purpose) so I can unwrap this and fix it up.

Thanks in advance!
Greg

all ya need is the ground wire and white/red and black/red wires from the stator to the cdi......from the cdi.... u need the black ground, the orange wire that goes to the coil....and the black/white to run your on off switch.

You might want to keep the yellow/red wire for any lights you might want to hook up later. Also keep the voltage regulator (under nose piece) blue wire which should be tied into yellow/red wire to prevent any high voltage to bulbs. Get rid of TORS control unit under nose piece & wires going to throttle. I have three blasters and have stripped all of them. I use toggle switches for ignition switch w/ a tether kill switch, also use toggle switches for headlight and custom tail/brake light.

Ok, so here is what I ended up cutting. All wires were cut back at their joints (the metal crimps) if the wires had them. Hopefully I did it correctly.

From left to right.

1. Tors brain.

2. Brown & Green oil indicator light

3. Carb Plug (to delete tors)

4. Throttle connector.

5. Green & Black - Oil sensor?

6. Blue & Black - Tail light

Thats what I cut... Oh and for the blue wire from the tail light, i cut it all the way back up at the red connector. Hope I did it correctly.

Thanks

Soooo glad somebody got into takin' pics and tearing into the harness and gettin rid of all the junk. Please show some progress pics if you could. I need to get into my harness and basically rebuild it. I'v got diagrams to help but pics are better.

Haha, np. I've done quite a few diy's on my dodge ram on other forums and just got in the habit of taking pictures (when I can steal my brothers camera). Anyway, I was just following the TORS delete DIY, and took the info above as reference on what to stay away from. (Appreciate the help guys). The only other progress picture I have is me re-wraping the harness.

Only thing that worries me was I had to use a "t tap" on the throttle wires to get the blaster to run originally. Hopefully that was just a tors issue and will get corrected since those wires no longer exist. Guess time will tell. Not exactly what I would have liked to have done only because I know the blaster will run that way... and like I said earlier my motor went so I'll be tossing that in at the same time. Rather track down one issue rather than two if I have problems with the new motor (possibly a 240 stroker :p)/ carb jetting / and now maybe electrical. That is mainly why I asked if I cut the right things off.

I love the fact that there's no garage that can keep us men away from a wiring project on the kitchen table. LMFAO. There's nothing like working at the kitchen table, I've done some of my best work at the table.

Lol... its warm in the kitchen. :) The garage has two antique cars that my dad has a sh*t fit about if I pull one of them out to work on the blaster because they might get dirty in the driveway.. :/. On the other hand it was ok to pull the stang out when I was installing the wheel studs and brakes on his other car. Go figure. The shed had two mowers in it... so it is a little crampt, but the spot the blaster was is now my paint booth. I have a work bench downstairs but my dad insists on blowing saw dust everywhere making shelves... so I am making due lol.

I honestly am a little worried about those wires still. I re-read through the tors delete diy and... for some it worked like a charm. For others it didn't and needed to jump a wire. Rather not re assemble everything only to find I need to solder a jumper wire in. Anyway, next question on top of if i did the delete correctly is, Can the stock carb handle a 240 stroker? I have a carb downstairs I don't know anything about (im a n00b)

I just went downstairs and grabbed the carb in hopes someone might know some more info on it. I got this along with a 240 stroker motor that needs rebuilt (am planning on having the motor checked out this saturday hopefully. Carb say Keihin on the side and that is all I see.

if you have a 240 stroker motor I would highly suggest getting a 34mm carb at the minimum, and is there any numbers on the side of the carb, cuz u could look them up and thatll tll u the size of that carb otherwise measure the bigger side of it for us and people will be able to tell u how big it is

Thanks for the info! Yeah I honestly do not doubt it is the best. My buddy used to race blasters professionally back in high school. Haven't talked to him in quite a few years. After my search for a motor since my younger bro blew it up (has other problems too) turned up nothing, I gave my friend a ring the other day and he said he got out of racing when we graduated and would give me everything he had for a nice price :p I ended up with a truck bed full of parts... the carb being one of them. I got the motor like I mentioned earlier that needs rebuilt (looking at it tomorrow hopefully). And some other goodies you'll have to wait and see :p Lol and among all of the boxes he gave me, I found a reciept for an elka rear shock. I about fell over when I saw the price. Too bad I didn't get that... lol.

Todays agenda is to finish painting the blaster frame, paint the exhaust (muffler pipe section only if it doesn't clean up). Clean up the plastics. toss the electronics and wiring harness back on the blaster. Guess we'll see what happens since it is raining. Pic's to follow later on.

what are you talking about? real men rebuild the MOTOR on the kitchen table lol

I think we are on to a new "off topic" thread. "What's the crazy blaster projects done in the house". I'm sure the best posts will be either by guys who are single, young, divorced or a combo of those. I do believe one member built his blaster in a top floor apartment.

Oh, and you gotta love the irony. You lose your keys or the remote you cant find'em for days but if you're randomly lookin' for an airstriker carb, VIOLA!

Some pic's of the progress thus far.

Didn't want to go through the hassle of messing with the old ball joints, steering stem, as well removing the whole new brake assembly I just installed a few months ago (hubs/bearings, pads, cables etc.. the works) so I just taped it off. Plus the wheels actually helped out holding it up when painting.

Here is a shot of the workbench full of blaster parts, and the plastics getting repainted.

And here is a shot of the muffler pipe gettings sprayed with high heat paint to clean it up. a bit. It will match the frame nicely now.

Im not sure what im planning to do next... but pic's will follow.

Cleaned the grab bar up the best I could.

Unwrapped the frame

100_1204.jpg

Tossed in the wiring harness I cut up last night and coil.

100_1205.jpg

Tossed on the rear fender and gas tank

100_1207.jpg

Took the switch out of the push throttle to complete my deletion of tors. (before & after)

100_1208.jpg

100_1209.jpg

Tossed the seat, front fenders, and front shocks back in.

100_1211.jpg

Tossed the light bucket in, and connected all of the wiring.

100_1212.jpg

And to finish it up, the front cover.

I kind of lost my momentum for today... next project is fixing the swing arm and painting that up to match.

all ya need is the ground wire and white/red and black/red wires from the stator to the cdi......from the cdi.... u need the black ground, the orange wire that goes to the coil....and the black/white to run your on off switch.

Where in this would I put a tether?(between the cdi and coil?????) Also can I eliminate the on/off switch and just have the tether?

Thanks guys

for the tether there will be 2 wires one is for the b/w wire out of the CDI and the other side goes to a chassis ground.
