Hi all.
I´m planing an upgrade on my carb. Its the only thing i dont have now.

But some people say a too big carb will not be good. But at the same time i want maximum power on my setup... I was thinking of a 35mm TMX Mikuni set. And if that too big maybe a 30mm instead? But I want the 35mm.

My setup is this:

Fresh bore and hone 68mm.
Wiseco Forged Piston
Vito Stroker crank +3mm
Redesigned head AND milled 0.035".
Oil block off
Complete Toomey B1 kit (pipe, silencer, filter, jet #310, 12 vents).
V-Force 3 Reed cage
ALL bearings including gearbox bearings are COMPLETLY new
Mild cylinderport (stage 1, intake and exhaust only)

Would this qualify for a 35mm? :)

Also the only kit i can find is this

Yamaha Blaster - 35mm TMX Carburetor Kit - ATV Parts - Yamaha Blaster

But i think its a little too expensive, the good thing is everything is included though. I dont wanna mess around find parts seperatly.

ALSO :

The last question is.. The toomey b1 kit uses a big jet in the stock carb, would this mean that i also want to use a big jet in a big carb?

How do i compare? IF i use a 310# in stock carb ? Would i then use a ex. 410# in a big carb ? Or is this the wrong way? I DONT WANNA END UP TO LEAN! .. But i mean the standard jet in the big carb is properly not big enough for the toomey ? Or is it?

thanks in advance..

Please read my signature...Kennedy spec'd me a 35mm pwk airstryker. I would say that a 35mm is ok, but you might be a little too mildly ported. But the stroke will probably make it ok. You can get a 35mm pwk for around $220 all day long. Get in touch with one of the builders and buy what you need from them and let them know your build and they should be able to get you close on the jetting. You might be better off with a 28mm pwk which in my area goes for @180-190 and a throttle cable (it will fit stock boot w/ some love). If it ends up not being enough then get it taper bored (most of my friends with 70-85hp banshees run two of these.

Ok i can go after a 34mm then ? I will NOT spend money on 28mm ! There is too little diffrence from stock.. then i might as well keep the stock carb..

If im gonna spend money, its gonna be on something noticeable..

But now the problem is if im gonna buy all this in seperatly pieces (not a kit) then where do i get all the stuff????? Intake boot for 34mm AND I wanna use stock airbox with toomey filter.. So where do i find adapter for 34mm to stock airbox? ... Thats the reason i prefer a complete kit.

Help anyone?? Either a complete 34mm kit or please show me the parts i need to make it happen .

thanks

I have read a recommendation from Wildcard Racing for a lighty modded engine to use a 28mm pwk. I am not saying that I am erring on the conservative side, but if you go too big the performance will be worse than going too small AND you could still taper bored the 28mm out to almost 30mm and I belive you can get the carb. bored for around $40. It will also require the least modifications to your current setup. You may want to consider a 30mm mikuni as it will have similar jetting to your current setup. I find it hard to belive that with your mods that you would need anymore than a 30mm- if however, you are going wilder with your porting go for the bigger carb. just my .02

Hi thanks for reply.
I can see what you mean, but do i only call my engine lightly modded?

I mean its has stroker crank, overbore 2mm, forged piston, head milled and redesigned, vf3 reeds, toomey complete exhaust, mild port etc etc.

I really want a big carb that runs great of corz.. i just dont understand why my engine shouldnt support it? 34mm could be great.

But lets assume i choose a Mikuni 30mm.... It will then fit in my stock intake boot? right? BUT ... i know it will not fit on the stock airbox? How and where do i find a adapter/ fitting whatever ?

But i still dont see how a +2mm in carb can be justified in using +200$ .. i mean what kind of performance can that be... 5% increase?

I understand, where I get mild from is your description "mild port" and as far as your pipe it is a mid-high pipe (from what I read) so it will be good for a more agressive build. I am just saying that 28-30mm carb might be best. A bigger carb is more beneficial to a higher rpm situation and may not be as crisp in its power delivery for a smaller engine in the low to mid range. My thoughts are if 4mil dune ported Banshees w/80 whp on pump gas are using two of 28mm carbs what are your needs? This means that each cylinder is putting out @40whp and a single 28mm pwk is providing the fuel. The carb that you are going to need is the one that is going to best work with your engine specs and your riding style. Unless you are wfo most of the time you probably will not need a big carb. If however, you do decide to get a more agressive with your porting and/or go to a 240 then you will need the bigger carb. I think to save some money and hassle you may just want to taper bored your stock carb and see how that works- you might be suprised ($40?). If you do decide to get a bigger carb try to get one that is known for running clean at partial throttle applications- this will be beneficial if you do end up over-carbed. I am not trying to steer you wrong...it is just that you want little hassle and cost- maybe get a 30mm oko or a 38mm a/s it does not matter to me.

get the 34mm pj, it will fit in your stock boot, if you dont believe me look at the thread "specializeds 89 blaster build"
pick up a throttle cable for a mikuini (thumb) and your good to go.
