ok so i have a stock carb on my girls bike main jet is 300 needle is in the middle. air screw is only 3/4 of a turn out. is this a problem? also plug looks like im running rich its black not to oil or wet just black not brown. im running 32:1 klotz with 106 octane only cause i have to run that on my bike and she uses my gas. any advice

i would stop putting that high octane in her bike, it is only gonna hurt performance if the bike is not modded for that high octane fuel, and i would try dropping the main jet a little, seems a little big, but that depends on the mods

How does it sound when you run through the gears. I usually go up on the main till it blubbers a little at wide open and then drop down one size, could probably go two sizes and still be safe. The needle is actually what the motor is running on most of the time and is usually why motors are burned up. I use the same approach to setting it, lower the clip till it blubbers and then go back up one notch. Your pilot is borderline small I'd say, depends on how cold it is where your at and probably the air filter.
The best way to tune the carb is starting with the pilot, then the needle, and finally the main. When your done the motor should accelerate smoothly from idle to wide open, thats when I start looking at the plug to make sure it's not lean.

i did it all backwards.. lol i messed with the main then needle now pilot.. haha im just going to start over.

i would start at a 250 and go up from there

i told him this same thing yesterday.....
mild to none engine mods doesnt warrent a big jet and a bunch of carb adjustments, he should just put the airbox lid back on and put a 230- 250 jet in , stock air/fuel / needle settings and his bike would run good again. IMHO
and further more in the DIY section theres a complete guide to JETTING, everything anyone would ever need to know about carb adjustments.
if that doesnt work then take it to a mechanic that knows what there doing cause obviously carb adjustments takes experience.
